Workers Comp - Rant

In regards to the upcoming legislation here in Ontario that will require the owner of a company to pay comp on himself, even if he does not work on site - I carry personal injury insurance which covers me 24/7, anywhere. I figured out today that if I paid the same amount to my insurance company as I will have to pay to Comp, that I would receive $7,000/month in paid injury insurance. Don't think Comp will pay anywhere near that. What the hell happened to freedom of choice in this country? Sorry to rant, but this is really pi__ing me off!
To our American brothers - do you guys have this kind of thing in the USA?

Re: Workers Comp - Rant

I have heard rumors of this here in NY, i myself dont have WC and from what i understand if you do have it you still cannot claim on it yourself if you are injured. I have my own personal insurance policies to cover me in any kind of accident/illness so my bills will still be paid. I also have insurance coverage through my wife to cover most if not all medical expenses, this just does not pay for any non-medical expenses. All in all regardless where, how and when i get injured i will be insured so that all medical bills and my personal/business bills will be paid.

Exactly, I think we all carry some form of insurance on ourselves. But now they are telling me I have to pay them also ( about 12% on gross pay ) and correct, I cannot receive monies from them. WTF !! Guess what - I for one will not pay this, enough is enough.
