Wood Pellet Shortage

We just bought a wood pellet stove to heat our addition thats finally getting done. The economics made perfect sense for our needs and we could have a heating cost of around $50 a month to heat the additional 1200sf so we went for it.

Seems now that there is a major shortage going on for the pellets. Apparently a couple of manufacturing plants burned down and demand has gone up about 300% from last year. I went to 5 major stores to buy the pellets and they are all sold out. Some said it could be till the end of Dec. until they get some in again.

I contacted the on line dealer that we bought the stove from to purchase the pellets and they do have plenty at the moment (Northern Tool) so we went ahead and ordered through them before they ran out. Had to pay a little extra for the shipping but, better that than to be without.

Just thought you guys might want to know so you can let any customers know about this if they want to install one this year. Make sure you can get your hands on the pellets before they make the decision.

I think I'm going to see if I can buy some stock in this pellet industry.

Yep, had that story in today's paper. Seemed everyone freaked when oil went sky high and the wood pellet guys found the niche real quick. I was thinking the same as you, too bad I didn't pay attention to that one to make some money.

I'm still burning wood. Free from our property, just time to cut it. Oil backup.

Re: Wood Pellet Shortage

I have a customer who's a joy to work with; she does her homework. Called me for a couple of days' work about a month ago, and one of the things she wanted done was installation of the new pellet stove she had sitting in the garage. Along with an entire winter's supply of pellets.
