will I have Union issues?

Last year I completed a ton of work for a well off couple and they have returned with more work. The original work was residential and the new work is commercial and large. The job is in an area close to NYC and is in "Union Territory". I am looking for insight on possible issues that may or may not arise. I can deal with a giant inflatable rat and a mob of bench riders, but what else could hit me out of left field.

They will sniff around and probably make contact with you sooner than later once they see your permits being pulled in their back yard. Not to mention they will try to convert you...

They will try to convert you to their Socialist "Brotherhood". If they fail, expect sabotage of equipment, slashed tires, theft, etc.,

Can I ask if it's just over the border, in Rockland or Orange County? I've been through that rumor mill, but never had a problem.

Talk to you client about the possibility of these guys showing up, especially if they are new to the commercial property Industry, it just might shake them up more that it does you... explain to them that it's just par for the course and that legally you all have Nothing to worry about.

Good on ya mate! sounds like you got some work ahead of you!

I've done work in Belleville, Clifton, Kearny, Elmwood Park, the Ridgefields, North Bergen, Lyndhurst, Little Falls, Newark, and Fairfield, and I've never had a problem. That's Local 274's territory. I had a 2 year gig at a site a stone's throw from their building, and the BA never made it over to even check us out. Last time I actually had to deal with them was in 2003, at a job on Doremus Avenue near the port entrance. I'm in the port right now, and no one bothers us.

I thought the Union was for the working man. I guess not unless you're union too.

What a disgrace.

Make sure you do your homework and not fall victim to the unions "salting" campaign have to spend tons of money defending yourself against the NLRB

Go find your local chapter of Hells Angels or Outlaws and ask them how much they would charge to discourage Union tactics around your job site.

I will take the advise mentioned in another thread about how easy it is for ANYONE to read these. I will be biting my lip and will spill the beans when I am done and out of there.

Survelance is being installed.
