Who Prefers TYVEK Over Fanfold-siding

on a tear off,you guys prefer to use TYVEK or just a 3/8 fanfold? some guys insidt on using a 1/2 insulation board when tearing off existing wood or vinyl even if the substrate is in good condistion. i think thats overkill. any opinions?

These are all totally different things and used for different reasons

You are really starting me to wonder if you're not an H/O in disguise! You've asked more basic questions about siding than ANY contractor (even with a year of experience) would ask.

Most of your other comments seem to be off base as well!

WHATS UP???????????

Tyvek first, fully detailed, flashed and taped. then fanfold over that.

I always put the siding up then put tyvek over it so the siding doesn't fade!!
if you really want to do it right start at the top of the wall and hang the siding upside down. This is really how everyone should use it, that way the holes in the bottom get some sun and never clog up with pixie dust.and only use a Stanley staple gun on siding for get the nailing flange just nail directly through the face of the siding.

I hope thats not how you do it, I get a 5gal bucket of 16d and put one in every slot on the siding. Instead of the foam board we just staple some old cardboard boxes to the wall.

Dont forget to put the tyvek right side up or it will leak.

My dad owns a garage he rents out and the house next door is full of illegals and they sided their house with roof shingles, and they just nailed them to the bare wood.

In the 30's and 40's they used "Insul Brick".
Pretty much the same as shingles, but with
a stamped on brick look.
Most are covered with aluminum or vinyl now,
but you still see a few.
Bet they did that in Michigan too.

I have been tearing insul brick and aluminum off my old farm house, I always called it ^!$$#& brick but someone got mad at me It is ugly but it was a pretty good insulator back in the day, and you didnt have to worry about mortor joints
That stuff is ugly too

About 1/4 mile down the road is a barn covered in it. Not to many houses with it any more unless you get into the shady part of town.

I dont think I ever had to work with that stuff.
