When You Find Mold??

In the last year or so, have encountered mold when doing demo on a job (three times). Our regulations require us to basically drop our tools and run out screaming when we see mold. We then have to bring in an expert to look at the situation, point his finger, and say: "Yup, that's mold." Bammm! $300.00 for the guy with the finger (telling us what we knew already).. Then we have to hire a contractor (who took a weekend course in mold abatement and who basically put up some poly and put a fan in the window and used a squirt bottle to apply some chemical) to finish our demo. Not to mention, left us a mess to have to patch up. The contractor charged three times what we would have done it for (but he was certified). I don't know if you guys have experienced this, but I'm thinking paying $40.00 for a weekend sitting in a Holiday Inn ballroom, listening to a speaker (with free coffee and doughnuts) and after two days you're certified to deal with mold issues is a pretty good deal. I guess after that you can charge 3 times your normal rate?? Anybody else had to deal with this situation?

Yeah, the chemical was bleach
Lol
...or X-14 (my preference)
I deal with mold all the time
I live in mold town USA

I charge extra for removal
If it's bad I'll have them call someone (or I'll call and bill the customer)
It can get really heinous

But I get the feeling you're talking the projects that I would take on myself

If I could put a official Mold Abatement logo on my card/invoice and a plaque on my wall, yeah I'd charge more

Re: When You Find Mold??

Hey watch what you say. I became a certified mold remediation specialist 3 years ago.

I took the course because my brother works and teaches for an environmental company. That coupled with the fact it was free.

It was the biggest crock of shyte I have ever seen. All the big bad mold has to be removed, and leave the doors taped until you get the final. If you open the door the mold will enter from the rotting vegetation
All the crap about removing the mold and when I asked about the mold trapped between the studs and the vapor barrier he looked and replied "Well you can't get it all".
The mold issue left when insurance was not forced to cover it. We ended up with double the rates and no coverage on slow water leaks.

It was absolutely a farce!! Similiar to people that die from Peanut butter...
Yet it stays on the market

My a/c guy made some bucks on it but lost it all when he did a job for an old lady who never went upstairs. He had a drain leak and the mold he was raping peole with became a lawsuit and a chunk of change for him. I had to quit using him because every unit he cleaned had mold He would try to freak them out but most of my customers were older so they didn't flinch
