Re: When Plans Where Plans

Back to the print sets ...............

I did a historic renovation of a city hall built in 1912. The 1912 print set was 5 pages total. one page for each of three floors. two pages showing elevations. The building was built from those 5 pages and had no problems.

Fast forward to 1995. Now the building needs to be bigger, elevator, fire protection, etc. 135 pages 24"x36", 112, 8x11, bulletin pages to clarify the 135 issued print sheets. All this in addition to the 200 page specifications.

Had to build my own light box to figure out anything. turns out the light box is a forgotten technology.

Thats amazing, are things really that much more complicated now, or did people take more pride in just doing the right thing. I think all the details are important, but alot of the paperwork these days is there to prevent people from taking shortcuts. GMOD
