When Plans Where Plans

My office has PILES of old prints/cut sheets/drawings , etc.....Most i should probably just throw out. I was in Texas this weekend, staying in a Best Western motel. As i walked in the lobby i noticed what looked like framed drawings/ cuts and elevations of some great old furniture built ins and moulding details. Thought you guys might like to take a look.

And print copies were run off that big ammonia machine. Mmmmmm

decent looking drawings there Gene. I still have a bunch of drawings from homes I framed 15 years ago.

Re: When Plans Where Plans

there was so much care given to drawing prints in that era.

Keep in mind that many final prints in that era were done in India Ink.

no erasures and no "white out". Each line had to be right. People had to really think about what they were drawing and if it would work.

yeah...that was back in the days when they had real craftsmen to build from the drawings. No power tools...no heavy equipment. REAL MEN.

Re: When Plans Where Plans

I remember talking to architect's years ago and them saying when I drew it or let me re draw that.
Now it's all cut and paste, I had one set of plans that had details with TJI's, open web floor trusses and 2x lumber all for the same section. When I questioned it he said don't worry about the joist type I'm just showing you the plates and wall connections, those were the closest details I could find!
That was the same guy I gave a box of pencils to at a site meeting and told him to sharpen the solid end.

Nice details in the drawings. Amazing how they did that with the technology back then. Or the lack of.

So why are you taking your cat to a Best Western in Texas?

You really like them Texan folk, right? Your sentence seems to lead to a potential conflict with those folks who are just OK.
