When Was The Last Time You Raised Your Prices?

Yep...... Simple question:

When was the last time you raised your prices?

Myself, I spend the time between Christmas and New Years getting ready to fill out taxes. This is when I figure out (roughly) how the past year has gone. I then decide if I need to bump my prices up or not and if so, how much.

About a year ago. I need to re-tool my pricing structure because I find I don't make out well on service work or small jobs.

Re: When Was The Last Time You Raised Your Prices?

We had a very systematic approach to setting our prices and mark-ups in accordance to our budget that we prepared at the start of each year. Labor rates and the mark-ups on materials and subs stay pretty steady for the year. Materials and subs are re-quoted on nearly every jobs as those prices can jump around quite a bit.

The only time we ever did an across the board price increase was when were were slammed full and couldn't take on anymore, in which case we might increase the bottom line for a sweet project 10-20% thinking, if they're crazy enough to pay it, we'll figure out a way to get it done.

I was a little pissed to find out I was the lower price on a couple jobs. It's not suppose to work like that.

Re: When Was The Last Time You Raised Your Prices?

I wouldn't be so quick as to say 'best' = 'lowest price'.

Maybe you don't use hard-sell tactics to sell unneeded products or services. It's possible you were the only one willing to work with the customer to find 'middle ground' between their champagne tastes and beer budget. Could be you had no issues with working around their schedule(s). Maybe you were the only one that provided a price for exactly what they wanted.

Looking to get myself established and put completed work pictures on facebook and other social media sites. Depending upon business flow will determine raising prices
