What's Hot In Your Area?

In our area, flooring is becoming one of the most popular upgrades that HO's are doing. Wander through any Home Improvement store and the busiest section is "flooring". A close second is the paint dept.

Hmm, never really thought about it, the home stores are so freak'n packed with people doing everything around here, not sure what would be hot right now. I know the weather is, I'm about done with these 100 degree days!

Not really sure, but I would have to say that lawn care and landscaping would be really hot right now.

The most popular upgrade homeowners are doing and the most popular upgrade homeowners are willing to hire done may be two completely different projects.

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

What's hot? Well besides the weather and the beautiful women wearing skimpy clothes because of the weather , New building (both commercial and residential). Right now there aren't enough trades people to do the work... It's nuts, drove down a main street the other day and there are houses, condos, retirement homes, strip malls, office buildings, etc... going up. Most of the sites had signs up looking for carpenters, drywallers, tapers, painters, etc... Not to mention because most of the trades people are tied up in new construction, there is a lack of trades available to do the reno's people want done.

That's where I hope to come in. Take advantage of the demand. Been working my numbers for 6 months now and figure tapping that market is the way to go. Will be freeing myself from the commercial GC I work for soon and taking the plunge to try it again on my own ... Failed once on my own but the market justifies me trying again!!!

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

A cabinetmaker I build doors for and I were talking about this last week. It's all speculation but we came to the conclusion after a few beers that the unstable stock market may be causing alot of people to liquidate and put their money into their only sure investment (home). He was saying that for the last 8 months most of his cabinet jobs/kitchen remod's were caused by the HO wanting to ditch the laminate countertop and upgrade to solid surface (ie granite, corian, slate, ECT.) This upgrade of course brings business to the flooring, cabinets, and all surrounding trades. Not to solely give them the business, because all trades seem to be backlogging around here. Eat while the troff(SP?) is full!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nathan???????? Did I miss daylight savings time? I posted at 6:29 EST. and the marker is saying 5:29. Man I hope I don't get canned for this one, but I'll blame it on the wife.

Check User CP, then go to Options. If you scroll down a little ways you will see a Date & Time option. Be sure it is properly set to your time zone.

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

In the Chicago area, the latest craze is to 'yuppi-fy' your garage into a showcase. Many companies are sprouting up that advertise how they can take an old ratty garage and transform it into an organized, more functional and presentable 'room' of the house.

They provide & install epoxy flooring or modular floor tiles, wall coverings, wall storage systems, modular cabinets and overhead storage.

Obviously a 'sell' for the high-end customer (and yuppy) who doesn't know what else to do with his money!

And to think we have starving children in this world.....

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

Here it is a tie between complete bath remodels with tile installs or spa and landscape lighting. I'd have to say complete bath jobs are taking the lead. Painting and roofing bringing up the rear but closing in fast.

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

I posted a smart reply earlier, but in fairness it seems that bath and kitchen gut-jobs seem to be the bigger one's in residential. I've been doing 3-4 automated driveway gate installations a year for the past 2 years, when I previously did none in my whole career. I wouldn't call them "hot", but certainly an interesting blip on the radar.

Re: What's Hot In Your Area?

Same old, same old. Kitchens and baths. The fun part is that everybody sells it, realtors, HGTV, as the most bang for your buck.

Advertising is free! All that you have to do is do it!
