Re: What's The Deal With Microsoft Lately?

That is the one thing I hate the most about Vista. It is always making me do extra steps for stuff I have told it I want done. I still run XP, but my son had Vista on his computer and that is one of the things I shut down. And it took me a while to get it shut off, they really don't want it turned off.

If you're really good with computers I can see how you might prefer an operating system that doesn't hold your hand as much.
I understand Bob.

"Really good with computers" is subjective. I'm pretty good with computers, but I know people that swim in the way deep end and talk over my head.

I actually thought about getting into computers at one time, but didn't. Kept it as a hobby that I enjoy. I'd get too frustrated (and sometimes do with family member's uses.) if I did it for a living.

Windows 7 has similar features as Vista, but you can elect to turn things off or tone them down. As you said, the prompting drives some people crazy, others like it. 7 allows you to set it to your comfort level instead of just "on" and "off". You'll be fine with it....

Vista isn't all bad its just takes alot of tweaking to remove all the crap features and programs that they ship with it.

Most update problems I encountered are due to the fact each computer company has their taylored version of Vista that comes with the computer, HP and Acer... I have had the most issues with. I don't think there is a dramatic savings when building your own computer, I've built plenty but if you order a dell on sale its not worth hunting down the individual parts; just format it and install a generic copy of your prefered operating system.
