What Would You Do???
Hypothetical Question/Poll
You set an appointment with an existing customer for some service work. Husband says that Thursday would be good at 3:45pm since his wife will be home from work at that time, but no later than 4:00pm You arrive early at 2:45pm since another job finished faster that you expected. You pull into the drive way and park and wait. Good time to do paper work and make a couple of calls, etc. Do you??? Now answer the poll. Go knock on the door upon arrival?? Wait till 4:00pm to call husband?? Other Options??

I don't know. You never mentioned if the wife came home or not.

"Upon arrival at 2:45pm" You are 1 hour early. Do you go to the door to see if she got off work early and is in the house or do you wait till 3:45pm as the husband has indicated is her normal time to be getting home???

OK .....It's been my experience not to crap where I eat and an early knock can lead to a nasty knock and the later possibility of check book syndrome. However, memoirs of the event can bring years of partner gratitude .....Damn! ...... I hate these tough questions.

Re: What Would You Do???
I myself wouldn't park in someone's driveway for an hour. I'd go to the nearest coffee shop or restaurant and sit down to do paperwork or read, then show up on time.

Re: What Would You Do???
I'm 6'8" an 375 pounds, it's sorta hard to do paper work sitting in a truck. Why not just show up on time.

Re: What Would You Do???
Im also with Stone and Sky, looks like your staking the place out by being in the drive an hour early, especially if they ask or are told by the neihbors.
And pwrpapa, did you ever play football? |

Re: What Would You Do???
l am with Stone and the rest, I would never pull in the driveway early and wait for someone, these days it might cause an uneasy feeling for a woman (or man) coming home to see a strange vehicle in the drive.
As mentioned above, I would go to the coffee shop and catch up on paperwork or read the paper, or stop and pick up materials for the next day, or stop by a wholesaler and drool over the new tools - something to kill the time. I have had several people comment on how nice it was that I arrived "right on time" for our appointment, and how they had to wait for others to show up late or not show up at all.

Re: What Would You Do???
I might have asked a question or two when I set the appointment. At 3:45, but no later than 4:00 is a weird way to set an appointment. Maybe somebody in the house sleeps, the wife gets home at 3:45 and can let you in, and then leaves for the gym at 4:00? That would be my guess as to what's going on there, and they guy is sleeping and doesn't want woke up. I generally call when I'm running early, to see if it'll be okay. Same if I'm running late.

Re: What Would You Do???Quote:
Some dude?? Thanks for the complement. This is an existing customer and they know me well, no surprises here. I may not have typed what I was trying to think. The wife was to be home from work at 3:45pm (but should be no later than) 4:00pm. As for sitting in the driveway. My van a 2003 and is fully lettered. Not some old rusty pickup or flower van. Based on above there was no need to call ahead since she would not be home till at least 3:45pm. I will tell "the rest of the story" once everyone has an opportunity to vote on the poll. Thanks, Les

Re: What Would You Do???
Try calling first, tell them you were able to get through your last stop quicker than anticipated or whatever, if no one is home head over to the local Hooter's or Show Me's for a sandwich and go back at agreed upon time.

Re: What Would You Do???
Time is money... got gotta at least TRY to see if you can go over early. Call or ring the bell. If no answer, find something else to do for an hour. I have already parked in a store parking lot and straightened up the back of the truck for a little while.
