What Utility Knife Do You Use?
A while ago there was a post on the forum about what tape measure you use. I was at a friends house and he had a irwin utility knife there and I was impressed with it. I never really thought about it before but there was a huge difference in his irwin and the ones I have. I think most of my knives are stanley. His knife worked so smooth and the bladestayed in place. All mine the slide dont work smooth like that and somtimes the blade will move in some or all the way when you dont want it to. I think Im going to buy a irwin.

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
One of those cheap folding knives with an Irwin Blue utility blade. I carry a knife everywhere, so I figured just have one in the pocket instead of the tool belt.

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
I have 2 folding, 1 has the word KOBALT on it the, other haven't seen it in months. Guess we can tell which gets used daily. As for blades, I found a pack of 100 in a pawn shop for a dollar back six months ago and still working with those.

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
I've just used a regular Stanley 99 forever. Recently, I switched to the quick blade change version of the 99, which is basically the same knife, only you don't have to take out the screw to change the blade.

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
Lenox for me. I have used all of them and it's either a fixed blade cheapo for crap work, or the retractable Lenox with the titainum cutting edge. They managed to make a steel blade with the leading edge in titainum. As promised they DO last much longer and the craftmenship in the body is second to none. I hate just about everything from Stanley. Last POS stanley I bought was a retractable self changing blade, 20 bucks and it lasted a week....and that with minimal use. Lenox costs more, but IMO it is the best one can buy. $.02

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
In my belt: Stanley 10-989
![]() The only problem with it is that sometimes when I'm cutting stuff that builds up on the blade- drywall, tar paper, ect, it gets hard to slide the blade out and you have to fight it open a little bit. In my pocket: X-blades folding utility knife ![]() I never was a fan of folding utility knives, because they were uncomfortable, and I could just as easily keep a 10-989 in the pliers pocket of my carhartts. Then my boss gave me that one as a gift, and I really like it. Also in my Pocket: Benchmade Osborn Axis ![]() This is technically my backup, for when I don't feel like carrying my sheath knife. And this is the sheath knife: Jim Hammond Designed CRKT SealTac ![]() |

Re: What Utility Knife Do You Use?
I like a ute knife that feels like a real quality tool in my hand with the sliding blade change function. Prefer made in USA tools in general. The types I get cost between $10 and $12. Stanley and Irwin.
I keep the knife in a pouch which is also useful for nuts and washers when installing clevice hangers. The folding knives are nice and portable but, if you need real force behind them there is not much to grip. I think those are best used by warehouse people cutting tape off boxes. Like the SealTac...Would like some Seal Pups too but, they cost over a $100.00 The titanium blades...Lenox...Do they break easy?
