At what time do you get the most calls?
I'm curious what times of the day people call you the most, especially requesting estimates.
I have found that our most call volumes come in at about noon time. I attribute this to people being on their lunch break and being able to make personal calls without repremand from their employer.
I have also found that at about 5 pm we got almost an equal ammount of calls. I attribute this to people leaving work, or arriving at home, and having the free time to focus on personal business.
Is everyone else about the same?

between 10am and 4pm, when I'm not home and usually they are at work and leave message on voice mail, then we play phone tag for a few days, I dunno why they don't call me on the cell phone.

Anytime I'm in the bathroom or so it seems. Damned cellphones, I guy can't get any peace and quiet anymore.
Monday morn. is a given. Other than that, it's pretty much random for new customers and the wife. The majority of my customers are retired or are high enough up in their businesses that nobody can complain.

It seems like evryone agrees. Lunch and evenings have the highest call volume. I have noticed evening callers will usually leave messages while lunch callers usually hang up if nobody answers.
I ask because I am considering hiring someone part time to come in and do some of the general office work, and it only makes sense to have them here while the phones are ringing. However 11am-6pm is hardly part time.

Yep. I'd be surprised if many people were much different.
Curious where you're headed with this...

Never really took notice. I'll make a mental note of it from now on though

I can tell you when it happens: Always, when you are busy, hands not free, and at the worst possible time.....when we pour concrete, the phone is in the truck....I do not answer it whenever I am on the lift, running equipment, or talking to customers. Cell phones are wonderful...and another ball and chain. Remember the days before cell phones? You checked the answering machine at noon and evenings and made call backs....now, it is wherever, whenever, and whoever...
I have never noticed a real pattern, but my phone calls start coming at 6am, and quits about 9pm...after that, voice mail. Somedays 2 or 3 calls...others, 40 or more.

I have two cell phones. One that is never on during the day and goes to voice mail. The office get's an email when there is a voice mail and checks it. At night, I turn it on and answer it until bedtime. Then its turned off again.
The other cell phone is my work phone and it's on 24/7. Only company folks and some few suppliers have that number.

...Not sure how set you are on taking the plunge of hiring a secretary, but a "get by" move might be to just get another cell and have biz # forwarded to it, and you always answer it. Have existing jobs/customers calling one number, and have on line dedicated to new business, junk calls, advertising, etc. Maybe have foreman/manager deal with existing customers directly, you handle new customer calls. The reason I say this, my calls seem half-and-half: one half are new calls, other half are current customers, etc. calling to ask question, etc.

joasis, I have noticed the same thing when fishing, they always seem to bite when you are doing something else. Think that there's any correlation?
