What Kind Of Fence Could You Build For $568 Per Foot?

Apparently that's how much it costs the government to build a fence at the border. That's $3 million per mile or $568 per foot. Needless to say, they opted for the 'virtual fence' to catch 'virtual' illegal alliens. I wonder why they don't put a virtual fence around the Whitehouse?

Its not the Whitwe House that needs the fence, but the House and Senate that approve and spend the money. the President has little control without a line item veto.

The president actually has a confidence rating about twice of what the congress has.

the sad thing is they were supposed to build like 700 miles to start off and i think they aren't even a fraction of that into the job. and not much is done.

i am not sure the specs on the fence but i think it's not just one, it's multiple fences that are high tech, will have a road in between two of them.

nothing is ever going to get done. i think they should be allowing the border guards to shoot anyone coming over he border. long range sniper rifles. i bet they stop coming over after a while. and try to get in the legal way.
instead, we have a government that puts border agents in jail. for shooting a convicted drug dealer trying to come across. those poor guys will spend a long time in jail for just doing their job. and their families need them!
so backwards, too many damn lawyers and too many rights given to criminals.

Being politically correct is going to really bring an end to this country someday. if it hasn't already.

My husband pipelined in Canada for over 20 years. He ran $50M projects. He's pipelined over mountains and through muskeg. You better believe he could build that fence. On schedule, within budget.

Of course, he'd have to kill some bureaucrats first.

susan, you got that right. its not the building part that's hard, its all the paper work and BS to get to the jobsite. i really don't know how we got into such a mess where common sense doesn't even exist anymore. i'm sure there are plenty of fence guys in this country that would band together and get that job done where it wouldnt put us into billions of dollars in debt doing so.
the pay would be good, but some of these govt jobs just get ridiculous how much money of ours they waste.

I read somewhere that some environmental groups were all P-Oed cause the President signed off on something that would allow the fence work to go forward with out a bunch of useless "studies" into the environmental impact of the construction.

I am sure the greenies are still putting pressure on.

Thats what my uncle charged his own mom to put up a fence in her yard.

For that price I could put up a fence with some machine gun towers and have the ravor wire charged with 10,000 volts at 200 amps. Smells like somone is cooking tocos.

Reminds me of the $3000 toilet seat and $500 hammers for the military.

If it's a high tech double fence with razor wire, raised guard houses, a road in between, hardened metal, electically charged, with mechanical gate operators and the like, then maybe the cost is not so outrageous.
If however, it is simply a high chain link fence, it's a teenie bit out of line.

Even if I had to drive down from Canada and pay for hotels, I could build a
12' high heavy duty chain link fence for, oh, say $45 or so a foot.

how about 20 rolls of that razor wire stuff you see before all the fences around a prison. no way in hell anyone is jumping over that without leaving all their flesh and guts behind them.
and to make it better electrify it so the meat at least cooks, instead of stinking up the border area for US citizens
