What Happened To This Barn?

I found this on another site, what do you think happened? Looks like it had alot of I beams in the frame of the building. I think who ever built it did some crappy work someplace.
Maybe it was one of those unlicensed contractor jobs.

Re: What Happened To This Barn?

I bet they thought that they made
a "chevron" truss with the I-beams,
all depending on the top connection.
Snow load, connections failed,
walls blew out.
Probably farmer engineered,
farmer built!

Re: What Happened To This Barn?

Hmm.. double steel Ibeams on apex roof. supporting what appears to be 2x10's as cross beams. then 1/2" osb sheathing and single layer asphalt shingles. with snow load. all supported by 2x4 16 OC framing and clad wood siding. Yep, she's gonna fall in the first snow.

Sorry mess for sure. Suppose all the 'heavy' stuff was on top without adequate support? Like somebody said steel on top of studs?

Snow loads here are 80psf, that snow doesnt look like 80psf and I would think they would have about the same snowload we have.

Looks like they went for a vailted cieling look so they skipped the cieling joist so there was nothing holding the walls together.

HA! When I was 17 I drove a Gremlin. I had a lot of fun in that crazy looking vehicle. I haven't seen one in years.
