What Do You Think About This????
What do you think? Problem solved? The “We deserve it” dividend! This bail out plan sounds like a lot more fun.
I'm against the $85 BILLION bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a 'We Deserve It' dividend. To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bona fide U.S. citizens, aged 18+. Our population is about 301 million counting every man, woman and child. So, 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up. Now, divide 200 million, 18+ adults into $85 billion - that equals $425,000.00 each! Yes, my plan is to give that $425,000 to every adult as a 'We Deserve It' dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So, let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Everyone would pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25.5 billion right back to Uncle Sam! It also means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their Pocket. A husband and wife would have $595,000.00! What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00? * Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved * Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads * Put away money for college - it'll really be there * Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs * Buy a new car - create jobs * Invest in the market - capital drives growth * Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves * ; Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else Remember this is for every adult U.S. citizen, 18 and older (including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehmann Brothers and every other company that is cutting back) and of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it! Instead of trickling out a puny $1,000.00 economic incentive. If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U.S. citizen!! As for AIG - liquidate it. * Sell off its parts. * Let American General go back to being American General. * Sell off the real estate. * Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. We deserve the money and AIG doesn't. Sure it's a crazy idea, but can you imagine the coast-to-coast block party?! How do you spell Economic Boom? W-e D-e-s-e-r-v-e I-t d-i-v-i-d-e-n-d! I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion 'We Deserve It' dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington, D.C. . And remember, This plan only really costs $59.5 billion because $25.5 billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. |

Yeah, but all that money is expected to be paid back.
The problem is companies like GM are now at the mercy of what Congress wants, not what the people want. Do you really want Al Franken designing the next GMC work van? |

Re: What Do You Think About This????
I think there are 9 zeroes in a US billion and I know there are 6 zeroes in a US million. So after you delete the zeroes, we're talking about 850 divided by 2, which I know is 425, not 425,000.
Sorry, the rest of your post was splendifous. |

At first I thought the suggestion was superfluous, then I thought the plan was nebulous, now I'm just confused.

Re: What Do You Think About This????
This is hilarious. I googled splendifous and two entries are from me using it in the past. I got it from Anthony Quinn. He bastardized it first. I didn't know splendiferous is a real word, but I googled it next and it is indeed a word.
At any rate, I prefer splendifous. |

Re: What Do You Think About This????
i thought the US government was going to give back $400 est to the people to boost the economy, i heard about this like 12 months back and apparently this money was suppose to last 3 months, (i dunno how), also where is the country getting that money from if they are drowning in debt?

Re: What Do You Think About This????
That was some interesting math!
Hey, look at it this way - American's aren't short of money. Giving each of us $500, $1000 or $1500 does what? The problem isn't that we don't have $1000.00. The problem is we're nervous to spend $10,000.00 Not $1000.00 The problem is we are scared to spend $100,000.00 not $1000.00. Americans have money, we are scared to spend on big ticket items and are also nervous enough to cut back on a lot of mid ticket and small ticket items. This locking up of money is part of the problem when your country's economy is 66% driven by consumer spending. The issue isn't putting a $1000 in an American's hands, it's about getting confindence back that things are stable and you'll have a job in 3 months and it's okay to buy the car you put off, or build the deck you put off or build the addition you put off. |

It's not easy to do when you have outsourced almost all manufacturing jobs overseas, and are starting to do the same with service jobs, because it increases profit margins. Turning around an economy that has no real manufacturing base is a daunting task, this country needs to reclaim the industrial roots it was built on.

Re: What Do You Think About This????
I think that would be great, and as long as everybody is willing to stop shopping at Wal-mart and paying $4.99 for their toilet paper instead of $3.99 then we could do it.
Unfortunately that isn't going to happen. So its not an option, time to focus on what can be done and not what would be nice if we could. |

Which will only be done by increasing tariffs on imports and lowering taxes on new manufacturing bases and goods made within our own country, but our government in it's infinite wisdom decided that free trade was the way of the future. Free trade is the wool our government has pulled over the majority of American eyes to line their pockets with cash from their cheep ketchup packets and pay offs from companies painting toys with lead based paint. That's why I'm not a Republican, and I'm not a Democrat.. I'm an Isolationist. F the world we have our own problems. There's people Appalachia with dirt floors for God's sake. Re: What Do You Think About This????
I'm probably related to them.
I'm a realist, the next industrial revolution will be in harnessing wind, tidal, geo-thermal, and bio-fuel energy, there are already plans for several small towns on the Missippippi river to power over fifty percent of their electrical needs using the river alone. There are also plans to harness the bacteria of sewage treatment plants to produce hydrogen based fuels, all it takes is the backing to make it possible and feasible.
