What do you do with your construction and demolition waste?

This question is not only for remodelers but also demolition projects and new construction as well. Do you take your garbage to a landfill or a C&D recycling center? Do you use a roll-off at your construction site or do you haul it yourself? What are you paying to dispose of your waste? Either by the yard or by the ton... What is the most cost effective way to do it?

On most projects, our debris goes to the landfill in 30 CY boxes. They typically cost us around $650, with a 5-ton limit ($65/ton over 5). On larger projects with either extensive demo or lots of masonry and/or metal framing, we'll set up "masonry only" and "metal only" boxes that get sent for recycling. We'll also salvage pallets for resale to local pallet companies, and cardboard to recycle. That only works on really big projects where the quanities make it worthwhile, though.

Depending on the size we will get a 30 yarder or haul it ourselves to the dump.

There is a flat rate for the dumpster, then overages. Sometimeswe will need more than one. It can run anywhere from $500-2000 for the dumpster.

Do you guys have the option of taking waste to a C&D facility or do you just have the landfill? How much do they pay you for the pallets? Does the $650 dollars just cover 1 dump and a weekly/monthly fee?

30 yd dumpsters like were mentioned above. sometimes 20 yd concrete only dumpsters if there is some major slab demo.
costs 525 for a 30 yarder, with a 5 ton limit. 80 bucks a ton over that.
concrete one is 375, i can't recall the exact tonage on that though.

I think for a 30 yd roll off here it is a 45 dollar one time drop off fee, 350 dollar dump fee and 4 bucks a day rent.

I haul my own I own a single axle hooklift and have 1 8cy box and 4 20 cy boxs. I dump at a C&D rail Station. The going rate up in North NJ is about is about 550 for a 30 cy box with 5 ton limit. Some guys charge 175 drop fee and 75 a ton. But the prices have been going up. Hopefully I should have my A-901 lisence and month now.

I use a 6x12 dump trailer and haul to county dump. Last trip was $65 per 1000lbs.

Big jobs-pay a guy that has a big 6x18 trailer he charges about what it would cost us to go to the landfill. Small jobs-take it myself

Small jobs I haul to the dump myself, separate any metal 'cos it's free. Roof tear-offs, I get a 20-30 yd box. $115+$65/ton. Rich.

I pay $200 for a 10 CY roll off and $235 for a 15 CY roll off total cost no extras unless I go way over the sides. Most of the time I get the 15 yd becuase then I dont have to fight to get stuff in and if other people in the area decide to toss some stuff in it dont screw me. And it only costs $35 more. If its too small for a roll off then I go to the dump. It runs me anywhere from $10- $35 for my ford ranger 6' bed loaded. I have never talked to any material recyclers.... dont really think it would be worth my time.

Anybody tried "Got Junk"?? If they are even in your area?? We used them on a few projects last year where we were unable to use a drop off garbage bin (downtown office buildings). They were a little pricy but they remove the debris from the jobsite themselves and even do a sweep up when they're done. Not a bad experience overall. Just curious??

They show up with a decent size truck (don't know the cubic yards). But, we did a lot of demo on one job and they were able to handle it all in one load. I think a smaller drop off box would have been about $300.00 (and $50.00 to empty - would have been twice). A full truck load cost us $450.00 for "Got Junk" (so only about $50.00 - $75.00 more). But you save because you and your employees don't have to take the debris out yourself. They come up to whatever office on whatever floor your working on, load up carts, take it down to the truck, and cleanup when they're done.

Got junk is great if you can afford it. I would never use them on a job. I recently went to move me mudder, and called them to get rid of the stuff that had to go when she sold her house. Lordie lordie, they aint cheap! But they would do it all, right from the front door to the truck.

I have a local guy that picks up my junk and he also picks up for some remodelers that buy homes and apartment complexes to redo and then resell. When I had him pick up the stuff from when we were cleaning out Mom's house he wasn't that much more expensive that if I would have had to pay for my gas and dump fees, plus I didn't have to waste my time and usually when I go to the dump I end up with a flat tire.

we have local "solid waste" facilities, they're pretty cheap (from what you guys are showing)... $35/ton, doesn't matter what it is, they'll take it (paint cans, used oil, and batteries being the exceptions... only if they see them go in....)

We have a section in our agreement that covers construction waste, on a small job the customer agrees we will just bag it and leave it in the customers garage for them to put it out with their trash. On bigger jobs we use a company called Tubs. $99 for 3 weeks on site.

http://www.tubsinc.com/tv_commercial...commercial.wmv

Customer service from these guys is incredible, I have called them to replace a full tub and they have been on site in under 20 minutes, which is absolutely crazy. If they didn't already cover Denver I would scrap the contractor business to start a franchise. My rep was telling me they have 1500 of these tubs in Denver and in the high season they are all in use.
