What? Trade school was not your first choice. Don’t worry it is all down hill from here.

What part did you hate....the physical work, being paid from the neck down, the feeling of accomplishment when seeing a job well done? The pride in being a part of something tangible. There are great desk jobs in the trades.
Or did you hate the mud, the work conditions, the ungrateful customers and bosses….

First...A.A. in Theology...yeah...me....Sir Cusses-A-Lot

then, B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M. I ran out of money to pay my way through at A&M. Who'd have thunk that there was such a beast as the square root of negative 1. Ain't college a hoot. ("sorey" its UNIVERSITY for the Canadians on the site...college is so .... not elevated enough I guess)

Re: What Did You Go To School For Before Trades?

I've got a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. I worked many, many years in the professional business world and succeeded and was promoted in whatever position I was in. I was a honors student in high school and college. I'm not bragging, it's just who I am. However, the problem was I had no desire to 'make it to the top' because it would only benefit somebody else. I always put happiness and my family first and that still hasn't changed. I wasn't going to work my life away for a company that wasn't my own.

After getting laid off, etc. I decided I would do what was second nature to me- construction. My father was an engineer and I've been using tools since before I was 5. My first 'job' for somebody was putting together their coat rack for them (I was about 7 at the time). I remember when I was about 4 years old and I was analyzing a stroller.

What's funny is that as a younger person I always wanted to get away from the 'mechanical' life because I wanted to be different from my 'father'. After all, I was a woman but I always had a very high mechanical ability which I realized from those famous #2 pencil 'Iowa' test. LOL.

So what it really came down to was that no matter how hard you try to deny it, you really are a lot like your parents. For me, happily the 'mechanical' skills pays the bills and truly does finally make me happy (because I'm doing what I love and it's for myself!)

So I really am finally proud of who I am. People might look at me and think 'oh she's one of 'those' (if ya know what I mean. hehe). But I'm not (not that there's anything wrong with that). And people might think I'm some 'blue collar' worker. But obviously I'm not. I happily gave up the 'white collar' job to do what I like.

AA in law enforcement. Was a MP in the reserves while going to school & working in the family company. I had every intention of being a police officer.... But then my father offered me a stake in the buisness, never looked back.
