What A Deal!!!!!

so there is this one house near me and it has been built very slowly...about 7 months ago they finished the exterior and roof and now they are working on the inside, every time i would drive by i would hope there were people working..this is because there was 7 bundles of shingles left over and the roof was done so i thought i could use them. So this was my lucky day,the guys were doing the rollup and i walked onto the site and im like to one of the painters "excuse me,can i ask you a question about the shingles" and hes like "hold on i will get the boss i don't know anything about them" so the boss comes and i am like " hi i am building a shed and i have noticed these shingles have been here for 7 months could i buy them" and hes like " how many do you need" and i responded "how many do you need?" and he said "just take them all" So now i have 7 bundles of IKO 25 year shingles in the color i was looking for too!!

LOL....pretty soon Nick you wll be just like the rest if us and have a warehouse full of odds and ends you won't know what to do with. Hell, if you were near me, I'd let you havmint spare shingles so you can finish your shed.

Re: What A Deal!!!!!

Be carefull doing that, if the painter is not the owner of those shingles that could be considered Theft!!

that happened to a plumber i know, he asked the finish super if those 2x4s are extras, after taking about 50 studs, the next day he got fired and had charges pressed against him! (and the other super said he only asked for 1 or 2 studs Not 50)

Re: What A Deal!!!!!

50 studs, and he asks if they are extras. That's a hoot. That's worse than next door neighbors coming over and asking for "scrap" lumber about "this big" and they hold their arms out to 4 or 5 feet. anything over 8" isn't scrap, unless if the house is completely done, including the trim (how many times have you needed those scrap 2x4's that you threw out when it came time to trim).

I had a friend who was in college (20 years ago) ask me once if a builder would miss a few 4x4's for which he wanted to build a loft. I laughed so hard and never answered, but he knew what my answer was.

Re: What A Deal!!!!!

Please re-read the OP. He spoke directly to the boss who gave him the shingles.
