What Am I Missing?

Although I am new here, I have been lurking for quite a while and am somewhat familiar with board mechanics. However, I seem to fall into a trap when someone responds to an old post. The 'new post' shows up but doesn't have an original post date, just the response date. Could be 1 or more pages of posts on the thread but I naturally click on the title of the thread.

Well, by the time I read through everything, (if its interesting), I get to the end and want to impart some of my wisdom, or BS, and I look like a fool for posting on an old thread. At least I wasn't the one who resurrected the thing, but it could happen.

Is there a way to help people like me? Its not normal to look at the posting date of the OP when you start. Its just plain wrong to sucker people in like that.

Want your cake and eat it too!

I think I have been known to inadvertantly bring up old ones too. Sometimes maybe not so inadvertantly. Maybe a subject I want to comment on or need info on. No big deal to me.

Don't feel too bad about it, everyone has done something of that nature at one time or another. Those that complain are perfect and never make or at least admit mistakes.

Top left corner of OP will tell you if it is an old thread.

I jumped on the bandwagon the other day on an old post someone had revived.
When someone else pointed out that the post was over two years old, I just left a smart-ass comment and never checked back in.
I guess it happens. I have yet to be the one to revive an oldie like that though. But I'm pretty new here to.

Why, yes, I want my cake and I also want someone to feed it to me!
Fortunately, I haven't been the one to start the response to an old thread but, I know me. Its gonna happen and I don't think there is a smiley for profound stupidity.

I know, I know. I can just look at the date on the first post but one seems to forget that part when someone else revives and old thread. Besides, that's no fun!

A two year old post can be just as interesting today as it was then and those reading it could use your knowledge. Nobody knows you added to it if they weren't reading it.

Re: What Am I Missing?

I often read a thread, get up a good head of steam, look at the suggested related thread list at the bottom and post, not having payed attention to the date of the thread. mea culpa. but I bring such pearls wisdom to every place I go, it's worth it.
