Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
I would not burn this bridge just yet. It could be as stated above, there is just not enough work/$ on this job to support you and him, so he throws you overboard to lighten the ship so he can stay afloat.
Let him know your disappointed and expected to work through the Winter, but also let him know that you need work and need to keep your bills paid. If work picks up for him, or if something comes along that he is not interested in or can't get to, make sure he will want to call you. His situation can turn on a dime and you don't want to be out of the picture, no matter how mad you are right now. Stick with it, you got 2 arms and legs that work, still have a roof over your head. Don't let this get you too down. |

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
I feel your pain man, I own a small company out here in Tallahassee, I put an ad on Craigslist for $8.00 an hour because I needed help, I got 60 calls in 45min. I had guys that were general contractors, and skilled craftsmen willing to work because the economy is so bad. Good luck on the job search.

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
Hang in there! If you are good at your work and are ambitious, things have a way of working themselves out. I've been there lot's of times.
In a couple months, you might be the one with all the work while we are all venting about having none. I obviously don't know the whole story as it must be on another thread. But it sounds like you are going through a period that will in the end make you much stronger. Keep your chin up bro. PS-as tempting as it is, dont tell him off. Burning bridges is never a good idea.

Listen. You work with your hands. Everyone can't do it. You will always find work if you have any hustle in you.
Kinda like getting kicked out the parent's house. It's a little terrifying, but survival instincts will kick in. The stomach will get hungry. Then you will go out and get it for your family -- by handy means necessary! Come up with a Master Plan. Then move on it, and move foward! Good Luck to you and your family. |

If he winds up screwing you over you can always take out a Craigslist ad under men looking for men and post his phone number there.

You paying any taxes on this cash you been getting? You admit you were going to screw this guy by quitting on him anyway. Yep, it sure sounds like the world is picking on you when all you do is try to be good and right, and work your ass off. Or did I read you words wrong?

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
That's why i'll never be filthy rich...i make sure the help gets paid first, personally i like the security of being able to pick up the phone and knowing hands are willing to drop what they're doing when i call to bail me out. I've read far too many stories, heard from buddies far too many times getting screwed over out of their money, i've been on that end back when i was a sub...so i've always taken great pride in being the guy that other's can truely count on...does'nt always leave me in the best financial state, but word spreads too fast round here bout bad GC's and who NOT to work for/deal with.

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
Some guys believe the avatar you use means something.
ADDITIONAL EDIT: And from your PM to me, I think you do too. I just feel like perhaps you're forgetting it a little right now.

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
I feel bad about the job situation and wish you the best. Have you ever thought about doing some side jobs. I have a buddy who has been putting up "We roof house" signs on poles and has been getting the jobs and subbing them out making about $2k a roof. You might want to try it out. Good luck. Let me know how you make out. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps.

Re: Welp, No Job For Me Anymore
Freemason,
Please dont let your situation send you over the edge. I got a little "ired" too about the unemployment and cash thing, but I think the guys here mostly understand. I think most the guys on this site are feeling for you now and have been there too. But try to chill out a little. This really isn't the end of the world.
