I just got an email directing me to verify my account info. It came from what looks like a BOA email address.

It directed me to a web page:

If you try to click the links at the bottom of the page to go home or check locations they don't work.

I get the BOA e-mails about everyday as well. Same here, I don't have a account with them either. Heck, there isn't even one in my state. I just ignore them. I also got a lot of the e-mails about a long lost relative passing and leaving me like $80,000,000.00 US Dollars as well. I sent in the paper work and the check and I'm waiting for the cash to hit the bank and then it is so long to all you sucker's

I fill them out with all sorts of garbage. Make up a name, address, and card number.

Hopefully, the scammer will get caught trying to pass off a fake card number.

When I received scam like these, I reply back saying... "You are stupid!.. That's not a good scam email, let me teach you how to write a BETTER email scam, Okay??". (Reverse psychology playing Devil's Advocate...)

10 out of 10 came back and asked me "How can a write a better scam email" or "How can you teach me"? etc.... OMG

Geezee.... they'll never give up easily, aren't they... or just a bunch of Africa student kids have nothing to spare in their leisure time!!??

I AM a BOA customer and get these occasionally. I also get the "deposed King of Nigeria" etc. Usely when I post on a carreer builders,craigslist etc.(at least on craigslist the blind e-mail feature stops them from getting my real one)

One time early on in my novice internetting I replied to one of these with a lenghty schpeel leading them on to finish with " NOW GO PHISH SOMEONE ELSE!!!!" I was pretty proud of myself untill someone pointed out that by doing so they(the scammers) now knew that they had reached an active e-mail account and had slipped by the spam filter. DOOHHHH!!!!!

As far as Nigerien college students....comuting from So Fla to No Fla on Amtrack one time I sat next to an ACTUAL african girl from Nigeria our conversation led to just that. She said when our country donates new or used computers to third world countries, they set up government funded "offices" where people do nothing but spam and phish all day! as was true in her city. She said suprisingly enough that almost everyone in her city had a computer because of the donations.

Yes, you are right!.. I think whole country doing scam.

There was a CNN or CBS "scam detective unit" set up to show this on TV before, and I have watched it before. A man (a detective) from USA replied to these scam, set up a meeting with these scammers, flied to Nigeria, brought money$$ to airport, taping them hiddenly, reported to police & caught them later, questioned & interrogated them too, etc.....and also followed them to house and showing rooms .. FULL of those donated PCs, and kids as young as 11+ age already know how to scam, write, and replay emails .... ALL DAY LONG!!!... ALL OVER DA WORLD!!! LMAO

SamSpade and DNSQueries tell me that the canonical name for IP 64.140.79.162 is mail.newsed.org; that appears to be New West Side Economic Development, in Denver.
"NEWSED (New West Side Economic Development) was established in 1973. Its mission is to promote and develop economic and community programs and projects that raise the income, educational and political levels of West Denver residents."
I haven't found the IP on any spam blocklists, and the only Web hits on it other than what Ed found is from sites that list its hosting information, etc.
I wouldn't click on it either, but that might be mostly because I'm not all that charged up about anything from the "Golden Arches Supper Club."

Any phishing spams I receive (rare though they may be) get reported via SpamCop, so the originating IP of the spam and the host of the spoofed site can be blocklisted or otherwise nuked if at all possible. I also send a copy of the SpamCop report to the "spoofing" or "phishing" report address of the real bank or whatever institution supposedly sent it to me. I've gotten some replies from PayPal and maybe some others, saying essentially "nope, definitely wasn't us. Thanks for reporting them."

Death to spam!
