Want To Build A Sauna, Need Some Plans.

Have any of you guys ever built a sauna? I bet some onehas. I have found the kits online but I am not paying for what I can do on my own with my guys.

The last sauna I used was in a rural area 24 hr gym. The owner had built it out of cedar siding on the walls and spruce 2x4's for the floor/ceiling/benches using drywall screws and installed a heater. (Alabama baby)

Any thoughts?

I've built a few - co-owned Fenno Sauna (dba of Fenno Contracting).

A real good book is The Art of Sauna Building, by Bert Olavi Jalasjaa.

One thing different about my method verses what Bert teaches, is that I prefer to have the top & middle benches slightly higher relative to the ceiling height - more heat found toward the ceiling.

I also recommend installing the the T&G wall boards vertically for easier cleaning - water flows downward. ALso, keep the bench boards far enough from each other for easy cleaning, but not so far that your family jewels get stuck - it has happened, but not to me personally.

Good luck, and don't be shy about throwing water on the rocks. That's what they're there for.
