Vintage Remodeling Books

This book from 1962 was one of my Dad's that he left to me. It's a very informative book with a lot of details. Probably one of the first "Do it yourself guides". It has over 1500 pages on everything from Plaster, drywall, roofing to kitchen cabinet blueprints.
Here's a couple pictures.

Re: Vintage Remodeling Books

I'de consider this one vintage (from '86). It's actually a pretty good book with some good resources (tables, etc.)

Re: Vintage Remodeling Books

Started as a Union carpenter in '73. Used a book called "Modern Carpentry", required study for an apprentice. Used that book to learn to frame alone, building 2200 sq.' houses in '75. Best book I ever bought! Framing, siding, masonry, plumbing, foundations, finish, flooring, etc., all of it covered pretty well. About 8 years later air tools were affordable, what a difference!

Those tables look as confusing as some of the NEC tables.

Re: Vintage Remodeling Books

I've got that one.
One of the most expensive books
I own!
Hired a "friend" who needed a place
to stay for a few days.....
left it behind when I kicked him out
two months and one DWI later.

Re: Vintage Remodeling Books

Two books I have are interesting in that they show many of the early methods that are now lost to improved manufacturing processes.

House Construction Details, by Nelson L. Burbank, c. 1939 and

Carpentry and Joiunery Work, same author, c. 1936

Now how many books actually show you how to build a double hung window from scratch anymore or the basics of many of the methods no longer in widespread use today?

Another couple for you old bookophiles out there:

Light frame House Construction, c. 1953, US Dept of Health, education, and Welfar and

Wood Frame House Construction, c. 1955, US Dept of Agriculture, Forest service
