Venting A Server Room?

What is the best way to keep a server room cooler? Would a regular bathroom vent work?

yes, air extraction will help remove the warm air created by the servers.

If you can introduce cooler air on one side of the room (near the floor and have your exhaust near the ceiling it would limit the heat.

Air conditioning would be ideal for server longevity.

How funny it is that this topic came up. I just did this at 19 branches of a bank. I used (4) 14" x 25" return air grills. Cut a hole in the bottom of the door and sanwiched it with two of the grills, then cut a similar hole in the sheetrock above the door way and did the same thing. Turn the grills so the angles on the vents do their best to hide the framing in the top opening.

Larger server rooms get a CRAC unit such as those made by Leibert, but smaller one's normally have a mini-split highwall unit.

That is what I told them initially. It is 48 Square feet with 9' ceilings. I was thinking of a small bath vent and using the space under the door as the makeup air or putting a open vent in the drop ceiling on the opposite side of the vent.

be carefull that the walls are not fire rated. If so you will need fire dampers.
