Uggg, One Of "them Dayz"

Last phase for my good deck project gone bad 9due to new construct budget restraints) was cutting the stair stringers and attaching to deck-homies were going to do the treads/risers. So Saturday after work I went and got 4- 20' 2x12's treated and commenced to layout my stairs....then for some friggin reason I second guessed myself, started adding for this deducting for that, etc..., turned the first laid out stringer over and laid out with my new dimensions and commensed in cutting all 4 of them before the friggin rain started again This ONE TIME when I was doing this off site I did not make a "story board" to check myself figuring I'm the man ...but daa... I was'nt this time-see next paragraph

This morning was all pumped up since it's getting close to invoice time, headed out to the jobsite to hang these beeotchs, and let's just say they ah did'nt quite line up right with the slab i poured and the angle of the dangle. Then made the mistake of getting my tape out and measuring the things and man oh man did I screw up royally My inital desing was spot on and the re-layout with my second guessing was completely off the mark

So back to da store for 4 more 2x12x20 stringers, but this time with my tail between my legs I did the story pole with my mark up at 125 1/4", laid out the first stringer, cut the bottom where it needed to be and hel it up to check and by golly I hit the mark and was correct the first time I laid them out LOL!!!

Reflecting on the previous saturday it reminded me of a saying gramps told me, "the only time I was ever wrong was when I thought I was wrong"

I have done a very similar thing before... I sometimes hate stairs. But I ALWAYS do stairs on site. Then I check it after the first one BEFORE I cut the rest of the stringers.

Might as well call a spade a spade, I got cocky. Typically I've had great results laying out stringers-thanks to my handy dandy contractor calulator if ya aint got one, defiantely worth the $80!!! so based off all past experiences I got "comfortable" and did the non schlant routine and it bit me in the butt, big time!!! not so much on the money I lost in material, but the time lost laying out and cutting 68 friggin treads/18 risers my back was killing my after saturday being hunched over and then today was hurting again LOL!!!
