Trying To Fix The Server... Please Post Here If You Notice Slow Pageloads!

This is driving me nuts guys and I'm sorry. We have been working on this sever for almost a month and hopefully we have fixed the problem... if not I'm getting a new server and host asap.

Please post in this thread if you experience slow page loads on this site or any other problems. Your help is greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

When I logged in this morning (7:15) it was really slow 30-45 seconds to load. It seems better now 10-15 seconds.

I get it a lot. Have you got a lot of ssi tags? That can cause it (more than one seems to be when it causes problems). Maybe something to do with the google ads tag - It seems to hang either just before or sometimes just after the ads have loaded at the top.

I'm fairly certain that it's the server. We have had issues on and off with it.

What platform is it hosted on? Windows hosting sucks - If it's on Windows I would change to *nix. It's more reliable and faster. If it's already on *nix maybe you could ask the hsoting service how many sites are hosted on the server (the more there are, the slower response times) and if they can see if anybody is running processor/bandwidth hungry apps on their site.

Sorry, you might have already done these things - It's just that I do have some experience with web sites and a little server-side stuff so just rambling away lol

Yea, we aren't on Windows and we have a fairly beefy server.

Specs:
Dell PowerEdge 2950 Dual Clovertown - SATA
Dual Intel Xeon 5335 Quad Core Clovertown Processors
4 X 250GB SATA HDD
6GB RAM
100mbps network connection
3000GB Bandwidth Transfer
CentOS ver. 5
cPanel/WHM
MySQL/PHP
RAID 10

We may just need a second one if this doesn't work and split DIYChatroom.com on one and ContractorTalk.com on another. We have everything on one now.

Nice specs. Is that a dedicated server? If so, I'm presuming you've installed the latest patches/updates - Especially for php/mysql? (btw, it does seem pretty smooth atm)

Yup, dedicated server. We have all our sites on one box though right now.

Yes, we have all the patches and updates. I pay a server admin company to manage it for me. The issue has been with our offsite backups. For some reason they have been dragging down the server.

Re: Trying To Fix The Server... Please Post Here If You Notice Slow Pageloads!

1. Splitting into separate dedicated servers (or separate hosting companies) is right way to do! Both your contractors & DYI forum are growing FAST in members each month & viewing capacity growing BIG as well.

2. You got a network "bottlenecks" problem, your server configuration is fine, your server memory/performance & storage capacity is perfect... just the network bandwidth problem only.

3. Research more on the hosting network that utilizes "web load-balancing servers" with multi-processors, "parallel/network server processing" with multi-servers processing & fail-load/backup, redundancy cabibility as well, etc.

Well, if you see that again tonight or any other day please let me know and we will get a new server right away.

Is it slow now?
