Tools Stolen, Truck Nearly Destroyed.

They took everything but my gutter machine. Iím sure if it wasnít in a separate trailer they would have got it too. They even took two huge packs of toilet paper and paper towels I just picked up from Costco. Iíve totaled almost 13k in tools, ladders and equipment.

The good news is I have full coverage insurance with Erie as well as a commercial policy with an inland marine rider for $10,000 on the tools. Iíve also got coverage for 45 days of rental cars and lost wages.

Iím as mad as a hornet but I have a few questions I hope you all can answer. The first is what to expect on the tool insurance, itís a cash policy that pays replacement cost minus depreciation. I understand thatís better than cash value but how big a hit can I expect to take? I have receipts, serial numbers, proof of warranty registration or close up pictures of about 75% of it.

Also, this is a Knaphiede KUV, the adjuster thinks full replacement of the service body. Does anyone have any experience with having damage to a service body repaired or replaced?

Re: Tools Stolen, Truck Nearly Destroyed.

Sorry for your loss, but from the pics, looks like most damage done to bolt on parts?

I wouldn't have any issue having that repaired unless the structure was damaged also.

Depreciation...
A place I used to live had a pipe burst and flooded the basement with about 2' of water.
All my tools down there. Insurance didn't really give me squat because of "depreciation".

Structure is bent in several places on the service body. Iíve spoken to manufacturer and they say that they donít sell replacement panels only the replacement doors. All of the doors are welded on at the piano hinge.

That sucks, a warm welcome to Chicago Huh?

Thankfully it sounds like you have decent insurance however it never fully makes you whole again. Just the time and hassle of having to go get new stuff is aggravating.

Sorry to hear that man, Iíve been Robbed numerous times myself they love the steal my concrete saws.. They sell like hotcakes and are easy to dump for a quick buck

I might be too far on the other side but I am all for extreme punishment when it comes to a thief. We're not too far removed from watching a horse thief swing from the gallows. In other countries, if you were caught stealing they chopped off your hand. I'm a nice guy so I'll still allow you to pick which hand and all!

Sorry for your loss. Just be glad you didn't stumble upon the thugs in the process,Chicago has an average of a shooting every 3 hours around the clock. You can always replace the material possessions. Just curious, where in the city did it take place, although, there is not a single neighborhood immune to crime. Matter of fact, the thugs like to go to the high rent districts because......as Dillinger said "that is where the money is ".

Re: Tools Stolen, Truck Nearly Destroyed.

By the way,I posted this on another thread. Chicago cops have it posted on their web site "don't call us ever for a burglary,we will NOT respond,we are too busy". They can't even get a handle on shootings and murders.

I certainly understand your frustration, however, shooting a thief will land you in the Clink. The rules of the game are stacked in favor of the perpetrators.

Furthermore,Chicago is one of the toughest places to obtain a carry permit,as you may or may not know or have. Without one the cops would put the bracelets on you before they would the thugs. Silly but it is what it is.

I hope you got friends in the concrete or HWY building industry... If not with an arsenal like this you better get a few close friends or get a 55-gallon drum and a concrete mixer
