For Those Of You In Western NC...

How is business overall? I have been strongly considering re-locating to the Asheville area (Rutherfordton County specifically) due to an extremely good opportunity that I have available to me (very, very, very cheap land) and I would like to hear what is going on in the construction/re-modeling world over there.

It is cheap to me (family situation...not cheap to anyone else.) Without throwing any numbers around, I would get 2-3 acres for literally pennies on the dollar. It is in the middle of several up and coming mountan side gated communities and 15 minutes from Lake Lure...not a depressed area by far.

Yeah it really is...took the wife and kids there for vacation last year and had an absolute blast just doing simple stuff. The Chimney Rock area is a neat little villiage on the Broad River right down the road from the lake. Its a very relaxing little spot to hang out at.

Re: For Those Of You In Western NC...

My friend just retired and moved to Rutherfordton. They moved in Jan 15. They bought a 5year old, two story colonial, 2car garage, with 33 acres that has already been approved for subdividing with no restrictions. Cost $400,000. Sold their place here in NJ. Here property taxes on a $275,000 house with a about a 100x100 lot $3500, car insurance, $2100.
There, property tax $1700 and car insurance $500.

I have a nephew that is a pottery maker in the Asheville area. It is beautiful country for sure. I understand there are a lot of retirees and that means repair work. Usually for less dollars in a cheaper living area, but I would be guessing.
