The Thief In The Night

About 9pm last night I run over to a duplex Im working on to pull out the dishwasher because the flooring guy is coming in the morning. I throw a toolbox, impact driver, and my big favorite channel locks in the wifes trunk and run over real quick. I pull up to the garage door and next to a black car parked at the other side of the duplex. I pop the trunk and grab the impact and go inside. Im in there working and I hear voices outside and my tools are in the trunk so I go look out the front to make sure nobody is in my stuff. They are by the black car but start walking away. So there is 3 adults and 5 kids outside and im kinda keeping an eye on them but then they go back inside.

Im 90% sure the guy was one of the crack heads who got evicted from the side im working on and did over $5,000 in damage in 14 months. His girlfriends mom lives on the other side of the duplex and watches some of the 5 kids.

So I get the dishwasher out and go home. I put my tools back but no channel locks. I must have left them in the kitchen but dont remember bringing them in? So I run back over to look. They are not there, they must be in the trunk. So I walk out the front door and the guy who was outside earlier keeps staring at me from inside the black car. They drive off while Im in the trunk and then is hit me. That crack head swiped them, they were on top of the big toolbox in the trunk.

What kind of piece of steals a mans tools while he is working? A guy that needs

My truck gets locked if I am not in site of it.
I had tools stolen from "good" neighborhoods.

I'm constantly telling the plumbers and electricians to lock their rigs up. I don't want folks to start mosying around my jobs and poking their noses where they don't belong.

Always lock my rig.

He probably left them somewhere really stupid.

I had a 24" SDS bit, I drilled a hole for a control wire for a swimming pool, ran it, hooked it up. Couldn't find the damn bit anywhere.

Yes working by myself I lost a god damn two foot long drill bit. I searched high and low but eventually had to run to catch a flight. Bugs me to this day....but I know it was me being an idiot and putting it down somewhere really stupid...

Ha! try living and workin in Chicago, I was working on a scaffold next to the sidewalk about 5 feet in the air and I placed our concrete saw down by my feet and somebody walked past and grabbed it and jumped into an awaiting car in the street and tried to take off

The god damm thing was still running

My dad jumped in and slowed him down til our bricklayer (really big dude) was able get involved and saved the saw til they took off

Re: The Thief In The Night

I enjoy discovering tools on top of cabinets, inside a ceiling, etc. I just picked up a pair of lineman pliers sitting on a privacy fence corner post. A bit rusty, but they'll clean up.

And what's really tempting is being stuck in gridlock traffic, left lane, and noticing a nice tool just laying there on the shoulder. I've been tempted to jump out and grab it a few times.

After a buying a replacement (or two or three), they show up. I just bought another jab saw so I could find one of the other ones. Same for utility knives.

I once had 1 guy try to steal my battery while another guy tried to steal my tools out of the back of a van I was driving while still running stopped at a traffic light.
Always leave room for quick get away when working in the hood.

Itís always been that way driving through certain neighborhoods in Chicago, you canít leave stuff in the back your truck because Theyíll grab it sitting at a red light

Actually the hot thing now is women that have their purse on the front seat of the car at a red light somebody walks through traffic grabs a purse or the cell phone and runs

Another example is when thereís events going on like the White Sox or Cubs game, sitting in traffic people coming up to you asking for tickets for sale and when you Show the tickets they grab it and run. You canít just leave you car in the street

get on youtube and watch videos in california. police wont do anything for car robberies so people put signs on their car saying please dont break my windows there is nothing inside.

When it gets like this people need to make traps. When people start loosing their hands in car trap then people will think twice about reaching in a car.

Can confirm, don't leave squat in plain view and always lock your truck.

CA is turning into a cesspool of opiate addicts who steal and pillage and the cops stand by and twiddle their thumbs and point at the career polichickens. An amazing state for the wrong reasons and I can't wait to GTFO....
