Superintendants' Brother

I'm a foreman handling a pretty good size job with about 70-75 people on it and recently our superintendent's brother came to work for us temporally as a taper. His second day at the job he got into a fight but according to him the other guy started it. I, myself have never had a problem with this guy and never seen him start trouble so when our guy said the other started it I gave him the benefit of the doubt. They were both kicked off the job but I got the site super to give them both another chance. Everything has been fine until yesterday.
First thing in the morning our supper's brother comes toward me yelling on how the other tapers are not to use his buckets or lift in a very hostile manner. Other than this the guy is Real Slow.
Today the owner is coming out to the site to talk to him and I. As far as I'm concerned the guy is dangerous and he probably started the first fight as since then he has blown up. The owner isn't happy with the work he has done either.
I don't tolerate this crap on my jobs so I'm gonna suggest that the guy be sent to another job or given his own time card as I refuse to keep time for an animal much less even speak to him.
What do you guys think?
Keep him on the job?
Throw him off the job?
Keep him on because he's our supper's brother?
Keep him on but have him keep his own time?
Remember this is his second outburst.

Bust him right square in the mouth and tell him you forgot to say something real cool first, so he's got another comming.

Sorry, I can't stand a crying hot head.

Kick his a$$ seabass. I would talk to the supervisor first and let him know that business is business. And you cant cary personal feelings about family into business. My old boss would fire anyone that needed to be. He has fired nephews more times than I can count. He has fired his own DAD and he has fired his brother a couple of times too. That is just the nature of business, some people just cant work with certain people. You cant let that slow down everything else you have going.

I like Glass's idea. Now lets think of something cool you could say.

Seriously though, I would get rid of him in a heartbeat. Theres only room for one hot head on a jobsite and that should be the boss.

OK, seems the guy is a liar also.
First thing in the morning dude comes over to me to say he's sorry so I listen to what he says. After I tell him what I think. Being that he already got into one fight then came yelling at me I say I'm done with him and that I'm suggesting that he goes to another job as professional as possible, knowing he's my boss's brother.
Everyone doing there job and about 2pm his brother shows up and I see them talking so after I come down in my lift and start giving my boss the low down on the job. If your boss's brother comes to work let him have his way because I got took apart, "why's this like that", "why are these guys doing this", "we shouldn't be doing this" and on and on and on so at this point I see what's going on, pack up my stuff and leave (quit). Now the entire company has reached panic mode. I call the owner who says he'll straighten it out this morning, then I get a call from one of the crew members saying that the superintendent wants me to call him. So I call him and he's all sorry and wants to work things out, ok...
Now other crew members are calling me saying that the supers brother told him that I told him to screw himself. Now everything is clearer....
Here I have this guy who's attitude is I can do whatever I want and lie about whatever I want because the boss is my brother.
Fine. Time to find another company.

Damn, sorry to hear about your mess It's obvious the brother-your boss has no real sense of reality if everything's been going smoothly, then all of a sudden there's drama on the job site with the addition of a new member?? Clueless and idiots like this is the reason I went and stayed on my own, refuse to ass kiss and hate idioctic descions from higher ups that dont see the immediate problems.

Hopefully this will work itself out, good luck, but i'm sure you'll have no problem finding employement elsewhere.

I got no tolerance for drama, tardiness, etc...and fired my own brother because of it so I make it clear to guys I hire that I will not tolerate it and neither should anybody else that realies on folks to make money. only takes 1 azzhole to pizz off a entire crew and bring morral down.

ZENDIK

If you let the supers brother pull your teeth like that you wont ever have no pull or get work down there. You will be pretty much HO CHECKED down the road by your guys should you have the kind that dont stick behind you and respect you.

Sorry for the typos I was in hurry and wanted to replie

Listen to me ZENDIK!

Motion a meeting with the GC and the brother- Take the crew with you.

I was just wondering, are you a Superintendant on this job, who is responciple for overseeing everything from pre/post meetings, and time and budget? Is this other person you are talking about the General Superintendant? If it's a larger company, there is always proper channels to go to. The worst thing possable is to show any form of personial conflictions, keep it right to the point, as the old saying goes time is money. When I ran jobs in Detroit, MI. (union) were talking about labor into the several thousand dollars per hour. So when your complaining don't bring up incidents, but focus on his lacking ability as a taper, and if he is within the industry standards of his position.

Maybe you can have him removed because of conflict of interest points that you feel effect your job? He can't lie around that one.

I missed reading this thread but I can't help but add a few pennies. I hire new guys pretty often, and my rule is FIRM, you must get along with the my guys who have been with me a long time. I had a guy who after a few weeks, thought he would tell my foreman what was up...well, my guys were reluctant to say anything was happening when i wasn't around til I get a call from my son-in-law on the same job telling me to get over there. I arrive as the new guy is about try my foreman on for size. My foreman is a little guy, 5-5 tall and 120 or so, the new guy is 6-3, 240 + and my foreman was toeing up to him...might have been great to watch except, I fired the asshole on the spot, told him to walk back, and if that didn't suit him, I was right there, no need for drama or bs....funny thing is he didn't offer me the same chance (since I am not small either). I will not tolerate any bs on my job sites and in construction, there are a lot of tough guys out there....I think it takes a real tough guy to make it work out with no problems then a kid wanting to show us how his fists work.

Next time Zendik, shut it down at the first sign of trouble, and stand your ground. If you are good in your field, you won't have trouble finding new employment.

That's a kick in the nuts Obviously your former boss is'nt keeping a real sense of direction and growth with smooth operations if he let a dead beat come in and do the htings he did..hell I fired my own brother for repeated "incidences" since I dont need anymore headaches that "normal"

The guy has to go. I mean, it's always about the customer - always, or neither of us would have jobs. If he does a bad job or causes the job to be bad in any way, then he shouldn't be on the job - plain and simple.
