Re: Steep Driveway

There's a lot like that in West Vancouver only they slope down into the garage under the house.

Of course, they don't really have to worry about snow and ice in Vancouver.

Re: Steep Driveway

Those homes with the really steep driveways were part of a master planned community.

Re: Steep Driveway

Thats insain. Even if you wasnt worried about the steep drive itself, your vehicle would have to have the break over, approch and departure angles of a rock crawler just to get on and off! Wonder why the drives didnt land closer to the road and make the angles less steep?

Re: Steep Driveway

How did those concrete guys keep the concrete from running down hill. Must have used a really stiff batch.

Doubt it. The topo map looks pretty limp.

It's been a couple years since I heard the real story, but I seem to remember that it had something to do with "just following the plans" and not thinking for yourself. Sorta the same idea as the person who core drilled this floor where the print had a "revision cloud" and the person who made these steps funky because there was a detail arrow on the print in that location:

Re: Steep Driveway

Initially, they should dig a basement out of those steep-slope house, it will lower the driveway straight into basement. Make garage level into second level living room above basement level.

Re: Steep Driveway

Someone built a drive like that about a mile from my house. I kept thinking it wouldn't work and it didn't. They could not get a car up it or over the edge into the garage. They ended up breaking out the floor and foundation and rebuilding the garage with a floor a few feet lower. They built stairs in the garage to get into the house.

BUT, I'll bet they saved money by getting packaged plans.
