?? Staining Parquet Flooring

I have a customer that had damaged parquet flooring, now the new stuff doesn't match the old very well. Is sanding and staining the only way to go or is there an easier way.
It's a high traffic area

Ordinarily we would sand the whole area where the damage had been done, not just the patched piece.

I have considered that, the issue is that it's a 10 yr old restaurant floor with a million coats of wax over the years

Strip and refinish the floor. Otherwise you'll never get a decent match up.
