Sonny Lykos Health Update

For those posters that frequent other boards or remember Sonny from when he regularly posted on this site, there has been some complications after he just had quadruple bypass surgery. On Friday, he suffered a severe stroke, but his family is trying to keep an optimistic attitude regarding his resilience for overcoming challenges.

http://forums.jlconline.com/forums/s...965#post367965

One of the threads from elsewhere, has the most recent updates in it towards the end of the thread.

Sonny is well respected and revered by many colleagues, nation wide.

Ed

P.S. Thanks to a fellow member here on ContractorTalk, who PM'd me with this recent update.

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

Thanks for posting that here Ed.

I'm one of many that have benefited from Sonny's advice over the past few years. Some of the documents and procedures I use daily are a result of his sharing. More than a few times I felt like he was looking over my shoulder when on a sales call.

We are pulling for him and wish him and his family the best and a speedy recovery.

Good Luck
Dave

I am fairly new to this site, never had the pleasure of meeting the man. My best wishes and positive thoughts to Sonny and his family.

I had no idea. Thanks for the update. I wish him and his family well. I can never repay what he has done for me, and I've never met the guy.

I know for certain, that many contractors could make the same claims. His dedication to promoting a higher sense of business and ethics and family responsibility has been taken to point from many contractors. I feel as if he is a guiding light towards establishing legitimate contractors being viewed and treated with more respect for their knowledge and skills, as well as nurturing a better philosophy on running a successful business, with WOW, being the goal ascribed to, in regards to customer satisfaction.

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

Sonny has been a great help to many, myself included. It was after reading many of his posts and having a couple of phone conversations with him 4 or 5 years ago that we quit doing free estimates.

He has a lot of great knowledge and a desire to share it with his fellow brothers/sisters in the construction industry.

We're pulling for you Sonny!

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

From a member at JLC, here is todays update on Sonnys health issues and obstacles remaining in his recovery. These were relayed to Mark from Sonnys son, Tom.

Ed

Guys
Here is the latest update

Mark,
I am happy to provide updates. If you would remind me once a week, that helps. There are so many people that ask for updates its hard to remember who I spoke with recently.

Right now, my dad is opening his eyes periodically, he answers some questions with written one word answers, he is moving the right side of his body normally. His left side is still paralyzed. He cannot talk. He breathes with the assistance of a ventilator and he just had a feeding tube surgically installed into his stomach.

Four things are critical to his recovery:
1. He needs the feeding tube to improve the quality of his nourishment (Installed today)
2. He needs to be able to swallow and metabolize fluids (not doing yet)
3. He needs to breathe on his own (could be as early as tomorrow)
4. He may have bronchitis which could lead to pneumonia. If he gets pneumonia, we could lose him. If he can breathe on his own and
move around a little, he can recover from the bronchitis.

We know his mind is sharp because he responds to complicated questions and situations. He even gestures humorously. His body needs to catch up with brain!

We appreciate everyone's love, support and prayers. It truly does make a difference.

Thank you very much for your concern and attention.

Sonny. I am a very strong believer of faith. But do not pray often. But I will say a prayer for you and your family. I have always been taught to keep positive energy up in these situations.

Sounds like things are improving a bit. Good for you Sonny, stay strong!

No doubt that Tom is Sonny's boy after reading that update, was almost like reading a post from Sonny the way it was written.

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

I hope things work out. My friend had a stroke at age 45 in '05 which affected his speech center. After about 7 months of intensive rehab you can't even tell anything happened.
On a side note, I just heard about the gov't recalling Heparin. This is a blood thinner that is given to patients while they are hospitalized. It seems the hospitals buy their Heparin from China and as you can guess something wasn't quite right with their quality control. There are two kinds of strokes, one caused by a blood clot and one caused by excess bleeding (hemmorage)sp.
In '06 I had a TIA and was in the hospital for three days. They wanted me take the Heparin shots (once a day) but I refused them. I had to sign a waiver saying I refused the shots.

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

Well, I informed the poster, named Mark, over at the JLC Forum that I was updating Sonnys status on a couple of other boards that he has been involved in. this was his response"

Ed

"He is well thought of by a lot of people

Barb told me he is communicating via writing but he did tell his daughter, while she was swabbing out his mouth that “she was a pain in the ass” that came out pretty clear."

Re: Sonny Lykos Health Update

Here is yesterdays update from Mark Parlee on the JLC Forum.

Ed

"I just got an email from Sonny's son Tom letting me know that his recovery is very slow and difficult, and that Tom will update us directly when there is something significant to report and that someday Sonny will be able to get back on here and give us his own updates.

This usually is no longer a matter of a weekly update at this point and maybe will only be monthly from here out, some of these things can take three months to see any progress. A long time but we need to keep him in our prayers."
