Solar Tubes

Has anyone ever installed a solar tube? The ones that look like a little bubble on the roof and then a fiber obtic type tube directs the sun light to which ever room you want. If you have which brand did you use and was your customer/s satisfied with the product

Re: Solar Tubes

People love 'em. We usually use the Velux ones. Easy install, lotsa light for the $, folks usually go for the in-tube light fixture.

Re: Solar Tubes

I have used the kind that has the stainless steel tube for reflectivity and it was amazing how much light it transmitted into a dark hallway in a home.

They were bought out by Velux and the brand name was Sun Tunnel, I believe.

Re: Solar Tubes

The nice thing about the Sun Tunnel version of skylights, is that no framing is required.

Re: Solar Tubes

Haven't done one for a customer yet, but my son put a Sun Tunnel in his bathroom at home. It's been a few years now with no problems at all. I will automatically go for the light switch on my way out the door. I think they are amazing things.

Good Luck
Dave

I saw a display at the home show last year, looked very promising.

Re: Solar Tubes

I put 3 Sun-Teks in my house and a few in other client's houses.
Less heat transmittance and/or loss than regular skylights.

Re: Solar Tubes

Thanks guys I have always wanted to put one in a project and we are building a bathroom addition with a large walk in closet. The walk in closet is on the north side and with our snow fall a skylight on the north facing roof = disaster so I think I will try two of them one for the bath and one for the closet and thanks for the heads up on the light option

since its indirect in most installations not much, also the lens which fits flush on the ceiling is two piece with a rubber gasket that makes a dead air space between the lenses.
