What you think about the palm nailer? We could call it the West Coast screwgun.

Palm nailer:

about 15 years ago, my brother bought a palm nailer. None of us had ever seen one. We didn't truly appreciate what it could do. One guy was quoted saying " your better off turning that thing around and just beating in the nail with it." It was put away and never returned to the jobsite. Over the years, things would come up where a palm nailer would have been handy. But it was like a taboo subject, the thought of buying and using one, after the way we had degraded it before. Finally enough time passed, and I bit the bullet and bought one. Its like anything else, you have to find the right uses for it.

Hung a lot of storm doors
and windows with that sucker.
I was right handy with it.
Not many choices pre-battery drill.

Did you use a horse and cart before the car came out?

I bought one about 12 years ago for installing tie down straps on coastal homes. The inspector required 10D nails, every other hole on a 3' Simpson strap. Every stud on the first floor, every other stud on the second. I now own 4 of them, Senco being the best one I've found. I know the PP guns will get the job done faster, but the cost of the nails was offset by cheap labor. BTW, the strapping had to be over the sheathing for inspection purposes. One more reason to stage the building with pumpjacks.

I remember those days. I was the first guy on the crew with the 9.6 V Makita. Wow have they improved since then.

I just found my dads Stanley miter box, complete with the backsaw. He never owned a chopsaw while I was working for him. He was oldschool in everything he did. That's probably why I'm a toolwhore today.

I used to work for a guy that did not have an impact wrench.
So if you we were putting on a deck rim with lag bolts he would pound them in with his hammer until there was about an inch left. Then use his ratchet for the last inch

Re: Slotted Screws And Other Peeves!

I really hate those "combo" screws that come with offshore stuff. You know the ones.... they are supposed to work with Phillips or blade screw drivers but in fact work with NOTHING!!! Whoever had this brain fart should be kicked in the gonads!!!!
