Should "Thanks For That Post" Feature Stay Or Go? VOTE!

I installed the "thanks for that post" feature a while back and it's had mixed reviews. To find out more info on it go here: New Feature: Thanks For That Post!

Anyways, I thought I'd put it up to a vote. Let me know in this poll if this feature should stay or go.

Thanks!

It has its pros and cons. It's nice to be thanked and to be able to thank people for their posts, but where do you draw the line?

There are useful posts, informative and helpful posts, but then there are the stupid posts that make you laugh. I noticed a lot of thanks for stupid posts completely unrelated but are pretty darned funny. I may have thanked 1 or 2 myself... I don't remember.

I can live without it.

I would upgrade to a Gold membership package. If there was a "your a retard" or "that was a retard question" button

Now that's an idea that has some merit!

How about this one - What about a paid upgrade to a double secret gold membership that would allow you to be able to tag posts so that they would only be visible to other double secret gold members. Imagine the fun!

Newbies with silly questions just asking for it couldn't see all the hardcore bitch slapping going on at their expense, they'd feel all nice, warm and fuzzy... that is until eventually some day they upgrade to a double secret gold membership and notice all the posts they couldn't see before!!

Now that would be fun. We'd probably even come up with a slang term for when a newbie gets that shocker. Maybe call it newbie puberty.

maybe something like the gong show where someone comes into the forum and immediately asks "how much"

bzzzzzzt....goodbye!

on topic, I could live without it.

So far, I'd bet 60% are for saying
something funny or stupid, 40%
sincere thanks for useful information.

Giving a genuine "Thanks" for a very helpfull and informative post that could improve our business and lives seemed really nice at first.

But it seems to me that it is being used more for evil than it is for good.

I would not mind a 'rating" for a post, like a check mark, but the thank you is a distraction.

50/50. I find it more of a distracting clutter at the bottom of the post. Usually ignore it.

Interesting idea, but I think it would turn alot of guys off to the site. I like that we all can jab these BS posts and it's interesting to see if these posters stay or go because of it.

though new here, might i suggest a reputation system rather than the thanks button? it would require x amount of rep for good posts before entry into P/R , augmenting the post count reqirements, and giving Malco a way to neg rep the trolls.

Re: Should "Thanks For That Post" Feature Stay Or Go? VOTE!

"Thanks" only button sometimes WILL be abused like others above said.

TO BE FAIR... I also suggest another button like "No Thanks", or "No Good", "Wrong" or "Bad" for some post readers here who is either opposed, or provoked/attacked, or feel initimidated, dis-agreed ,or irritated, etc.. about that comment/thread also.

If you want to keep "thanks", then balance it out with "No, Thanks". If not , then delete "thanks" to be a fair society.

For me, I voted "Yes" to keep "thanks" since majority here agreed to keep it so do i.

I like the thanks button, when used right. I visit several forums, CT and PT are my favorites for layout and user interface. I really like the this one http://www.city-data.com/forum/

The member rep points are a good feature, anyone can get their post count high, not rep points!

Re: Should "Thanks For That Post" Feature Stay Or Go? VOTE!

I like the button...although I do not use it to frequently.

There are two occasions when I use it:
1 - When someone has made a post I agree with...whether it be funny or informative.
This is a sincere "THANKS" and is meant as such.

2 - When someone is a complete tool and I thank them for showing this to us all.
Most times the tool is a one-pump chump who isn't coming back anyway...
If they do return, all the better :: Gee, someone thanked me for asking "How much...?"::
This is a sarcastic "THANKS" and is meant as such.

So if I should exercise my forum given privilege of using the button, you have some thinking to do.

Re: Should "Thanks For That Post" Feature Stay Or Go? VOTE!

I find it pretty meaningless, and it takes room on the page. You don't know why people have thanked, like Celtic points out, so what purpose does it serve?

Finleys' idea about the newbie puberty (nuberty?) is funny. (Just not funny enough to thank him for it and someone might get the idea I think it should be implemented.)

Another vote here for the rep points..........I think I posted a thread about that a few months ago even. Nathan, if we can't keep the thanks or rep option, can we at least have an arcade? PLEASE!
