Service Contracts?

My employer (mostly plumbing, some HVAC) is considering setting up service contracts and for some reason has selected me to help decide whether we should do this, and help get one drawn up, etc.

What are you guys opinions of these? Do any of you have any "generic" ones that I might could build off of? Ideally I'm looking for a plumbing-oriented one but anything to give me an idea would help.

I'm not sure what to think about these, except for steady business I dont know how applicable they are in a market like ours (smaller town).

Re: Service Contracts?

Service Contracts are a tough sell IMO in electrical contracting, but they're a natural in HVAC where furnaces & ACs obviously require routine maintenance. They're money in the bank. You sell them year round and service them when you're slow. The contract only needs to state what service you're providing at whatever cost. For the service, just use the manufacturer's recommendations for service and include a visual inspection. While you're there you try to upsell whatever else you have to offer...because it's slow.
