Selling the job
A couple of threads are going currently about selling/advertising/pricing. it got me thinking, as i reflect back on what i have done, and how i have done it, it was never about pricing or marketing. (hell my trucks have never had a sign). it has always been about my ability to sit down, and be a genuine person, friendly , polite, respectful, funny, whatever it took. we are in peoples homes, with there families, for days , weeks , months , and sometimes years. they have to like you. you have to make them feel comfortable. once you accomplish this, and get that reputation, you will have more work than you can handle .

I wholeheartedly agree, Gene. When we are on a job, we try to be as respectful, courteous, and professional as possible. Not only because it keeps our reputation intact, but it's just the right way to be.

If the customer "buys" you...It matters NOT what you are selling.

I landed a 63 square ranch roof last year because their dog liked me. Wasn't low bid either . Have since wrapped some doors and poured a sidewalk for them. Now that I have them, just have to take care of them....They are looking at reskining a deck for next year. Just wish I had more customers that didn't make all their decisions on price.

I've also landed a job because the dog liked me. The owners claimed he didn't like anyone outside of family. We've resided their house, remodeled the kitchen, bath, and the sons bedroom. The original call was for a siding repair and there were no competing bids on the rest.
Good Luck
Dave

Showing some love to the dog or cat of the house is always an extra 'plus' in you getting the job.
