Re: Seen On The Road In South Jersey

Well, having grown up there and then moving south, I can't comment on the current state of the "smell" issue, but.... the "on time" issue seems to be a prevelent concern everywhere I've ever done business, and also happens to be my biggest pet peeve. I find myself so anal about being on time to a customers house that I appologize if I'm 3 minutes late....I HATE people that set appointments and then don't show up on time.

Time is of the essence. We all get only so much of it in this life. I try not to waste others time.

I will coment on the smell issue- I've had people working in my premises where you could still smell them after they had left. Nearly always it's because they are smokers. People who smoke think that all they have to do is not smoke actually inside the customer's house, but they don't realise that they carry the smell with them everywhere they go.
The firm in the photo realise two important things, first that how people smell is an issue, and secondly that you need to tell people (or let them know somehow) about any sales advantages that you have over the other guy.

Get over it. I'll smoke all I want, if the customer doesn't like it, f-them, the biggest polluter out their is the internal combustion engine, if your worried about second hand smoke, better ban all vehicles...

But you don't drive in their house do you
I am a cigar smoker but would never smoke a cigar on the way to an estimate or if I was working in someones house.
I like Italian food and won't eat garlic either if i'm bidding the next day.
Oh, and I take a shower before meeting people.

Re: Seen On The Road In South Jersey

I think John was simply noting that sometimes we can't smell ourselves as well as our client might.

Just because we're not offended by the smell doesn't mean they will not be.

When you're trying to sell something to someone, its nice to 'mirror and mimic'. If they are non-smokers, its hard to 'mimic' not smelling like a smoker.
