Save $200-$300 By Buying Direct!

Here's an advertisement from 1953 for a Liberty home. 3 bedroom with attached garage for $5350.00 (or about what I spent on gas last year)

Pretty cool.

The old Sears home prices on their kits were pretty amazing too.Everything from nails and lumber to tubs and sinks.Sears Homes 1927-1932
The Osborn (Model No. 12050); ($1,163 to $2,753)

The Vallonia (Model Nos. P13049A, P13049B); ($1,465 to $2,

Look at that, they double in price every 20 years.

I've worked on some of the
Sears Roebuck houses.
Weird having part numbered lumber.

Makes me wonder how many people they use to employ.
Think of the organization needed to get all those kits together.

Probably could pack a whole house and get it out with all the right pieces before HD could get a correct cabinet order together.

If it's knob and tube,
it was done long before '45.
They even had romex by then.

No way to tell. Some is still servicable, some have no insulation left on the wire.

Don't doubt it is knob and tube,
just that it's older than '45.
Maybe the house was moved?

Maybe the house was moved?
then it probably is. all i know is it was a PITA to move. i had to move the light switch over to another stud, and that stuff doesnt bend for sh*t. i took my chisel and went to work for a few minutes, finished and nailed it onto the other stud, i was pretty satisfied. then scratched my head and said to myself "why didnt i just use the sawsall"

There's no other wiring method that even remotely resembles K&T.

Re: Save $200-$300 By Buying Direct!

While renovating an old (20's) home we found the bill for the hardwood flooring. It was 1200 sf of hardwood installed for something ridiculous like $300. The going rate for labor must have been cents per hour.
