Run Or Suffer?

Posted previous form about this bathroom i've been working on named "mushrooms".Well its been nothing but a headache from the get go.From the very begining I told customer that I thought they had a moisture problem in the bathrrom they are landlords so of course they said no, they didnt. So I removed old tile from walls installed green board on walls and then that plastic sheeting around tub on the walls the kind you see in hotels, using liquid nail.I got a call from the customer today saying the stuff was peeling off the wall, sure enough it was i've never seen liquid nail peel off anything!the back of the green board was already moist.Customer wanted to know "What are yoy going to do about this?".This is where i need advise,i've made it clear and she agreed that i would get paid for what i did.Do i take money and leave since she dosent listen to a dam thing I say,or stick it out?

I would side with your customer, it is your fault. If you closed up the wall with existing moisture problems and your installation failed it is not their fault. On the other hand if you found a problem and asked them to authorize a change order and they did not OK more money then you should of walked.

Agreed. If you warned them that this might happen as a result of their moisture issue and they ignored you and said "do it like we want", then walk away with your head held high and remind them that you told them so. They made their bed now they can lay in it.

Otherwise, own up to your mistake (if it is your mistake). Don't ever "RUN" away, you either "WALK" away proud, or you stand and take your knocks, pay the price and file it away under "live and learn". As contractors we are allowed to make mistakes...we're human. But the luxury we have that some other professions don't have is that we can easily go back and fix our mistakes for a small fee and still be in business. A doctor can seldom claim the same. So count yourself lucky. My 2 cents.

Oh and I forgot, don't use liquid nails...use bulldog. Huricane Katrina could blow through that house and that lining would still be intact.

Re: Run Or Suffer?

they have a small fan in the celling about a 1foot by 1 foot in celling plus old cast iron pipes in the wall, so i'm not exactly sure think if they had a bigger fan that would help.plus the pipe sweat.another thing they did is lay 3/4 marine plywood on floor while the wood was soaking wet,so i dont know how they excpect that to dry?

Have you used this exact liquid nail product before for the exact same application?

Re: Run Or Suffer?

Moisture is the problem. Floor, walls, and unless it gets fixed, the problem will remain and grow. If the customer knew the moisture was present and knew it could/would be a problem and told you not to fix it, it's the customers problem. If you knew and didn't tell the customer, it's your problem.

Either way, I wouldn't continue working for this customer. Either they are unwilling to pay to fix things or you screwed up and they won't trust your judgment.

Re: Run Or Suffer?

When you say "been working on" does that mean that you are still doing it or just got done doing it? If it was a recent job and the glue has peeled already and the sheetrock is moist then I would say there is a leak somewhere. That would take time for that to happen if installed correctly.
