Rolling Doors

Has anyone ever used a rolling door for an interior opening. I found some in wood, that can be motorized, and will sit in a boot above the door. These types of doors usually apply to commercial. metal etc...I am looking for a way to create a doorway, my space is limited, and a pocket door will not work. ideas are welcome. G

Re: Rolling Doors

Door sounds like a fire rated fusible link that slides shut due to heat from fire melting link & sliding shut because of angled track. If so these are sometimes used as-is but finished to blend with interior. What is the width & height of door assembly?

What are you doing?
Meeting spaces, convention centers,
funeral parlors use folding "accordion"
doors or multi-leaf paneled doors.
Brain will not retrieve desired information
at this time.....

Re: Rolling Doors

Another interesting idea i had, this door opening is tight on corner, i could have a hinge system that lets the door swing out, then close around the corner tight to the wall.

Go industrial tech, get one of the
roll up security gates, like in schools
and mall stores.

I like the Star trek roll up idea, just make sure it makes the shhhh sound...of course on star trek they had guys with ropes to work them, but you labor cost might be a little on the high side. I think Mal mentioned it, but fire partition hardware and or assembly.....other option is a shop made tambor door with an optional gear driver opener, made of an old garage door opener chain and a few other parts

There you go, the roll-up
security gate hardware with
custom wood tambour door.

Re: Rolling Doors

What happens when the door opener remote batteries die? No food help!

This is starting to get interesting. I like good brain storming.

Just hang up some of those bead things that all the hippy's and stoner's have.

Re: Rolling Doors

how about a rotating pantry, that when turned has a solid area (the back of the shelves), and when rotated, has an opening... kinda like a human size lazy susan

Gotta watch your step when it closes

This could work out......
Like a big enough room,
with enough monkeys,
and enough typewriters......
