Road Crew For An Entertainment Production?

I'm curious if anyone here has had the oppotunity to work on a road crew for a major touring production? If so, how do you land a gig like that, what's it like?

I understand that it's a union job, what union?

I'm a musician and a capenter, not married, no kids...that seems like a really fun thing do for a time.

Probably the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employes, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada.

I've worked on a few sets(location, not sound stage) - but as en electrician, not a stage hand ~ basically, my job was to ensure power did not go down at any point during their production on the set(location).

Thanks for the link Celtic...I'll have to contact the local chapter to learn more about employment opporunities.

32, 10 years with my company, and looking for a change in pace. I've always wondered what it would be like, and had no idea how to get there.

I just thought I'd bring it up and see what transpired.....don't get me wrong, I'm going to look into it. This facet of construction is so alien to me, but seems like it could be so much fun.

I've been tossing around many different options, and being a roadie has always intrigued me.
