Rings?

So how many of you guys who work in the field wear your ring(s) while working, or do you only wear them on occasion?

I started out my working life in construction and then tech school school as a machinist, so I was never big on wearing rings. Like most guys, my highschool ring was given to my g/f at the time, and it has been in a drawer now for years, never worn again. I didn't have a wedding ring with my first wife, I saw no point in wasting the money when I wouldn't wear it after witnessing what happens in an accident with one on. After I left the trades and began teaching, I wore my college ring with pride, and then back to the trades, it comes out only on "occasions" along with my wedding band since I remarried.

I went to put my rings on a few minutes ago before heading to church, and I wondered why? So I tossed my college ring back in the box, and just have my band on, and my wife asked the question....so why don't I wear my wedding band all the time? My reason is safety......so what about the rest of us?

I wear my wedding band 90% of the time at work, however I will take it off when I am dealing with installing any major aplliances or anything ceramic in a kitchen and bathroom remodel. I wouldnt want to scratch anything expensive.

I am not concerned about saftey hazards of having a ring on while working.

When I worked in the field I would not wear it for safety reasons. One of my neighbors lost his finger and his job because his ring got caught and ripped his finger off.

Last year I began to wear it again but it would cause a pain like my finger bone was sore. Maybe my body does not like gold? I might try a different type of metal and see if I get a reaction. Because of this reaction thing, I took it off and lost it on a trip las year.

The only ring I have is my wedding band. I wear it most all the time, but I do take it off for certain, specific tasks. I feel naked without it, and it irritates my wife when it's off. Maybe I'll lose a finger some day? Perhaps, but that would be the price for me feeling completely dressed and keeping the wife happy and content.

I'm not married and an electrician.

Why on earth would I wear a ring at work?

My Father almost lost a finger after his wedding ring hung on a cab board on a truck when he jumped off. He had to have it cut off of his finger. I remember seeing the ring as a young boy as he kept it as a momento. I've heard many stories ending the same way. But my wedding band saved me from falling about 60 ft. once years ago. Kinda made a mess of my finger but it gave me time to grab on with the other hand and get back on top. I haven't been with out mine since.

To apply gyp on the apt's we were building we were using a coil roofing nailer. I had to get down one day and the only way was hang off the window sill and let go. Problem was my wedding band caught one of the roofing nails. My knuckle stopped my ring from completely cutting my finger off.

Never wore it again after I got it off.

I hvae not gone one day without my ring being on since I got married over 2 years ago. Its a simple white gold band so neither I nor my wife mind if it gets scratched up. Which it is pretty badly.

After the wedding I took the obnoxious thing off, my wife made me wear it to her parents once.

I don't understand the desire to have one on.

I never wear the wedding band to work. Sometimes I wear it on the weekends to make my wife happy. If I wore it to work, it would get destroyed.

I wear a stainless steel Masonic ring along with my wedding band.

I am always surprised how many Brethren there are out there "we are every where"

Because rings are generally made of conductive metals, like gold and silver. I know most don't consider gold or silver as it relates to electrical wires, but silver is the BEST conductor of electricity but we don't use it because of it's high cost. It's also a safety issue in the sense that the human body has a very high resistance to electricity and a gold or silver ring doesn't.

I never wear mine in the field. I would just end up ruining it or losing it. I only wear it when I go out.

I wear my wedding ring on very rare occasions.

I try and remember to wear it on vacation when we meet the in-laws for a getaway, I try and remember to wear it when we see the in-laws at Christmas. I usually forget!

Sometimes when we go out to dinner and such, I try and remember to put it on. But for the most part, I never wear my ring.

The Mrs. seems to understand.... she knows that when I make a commitment....I'm in till the end.

I have gotten my finger caught a few times with the ring on, and the resulting swelling and bruising seems to get the point across.

Keep the ring in the drawer....keep the hand intact.

I've had to cut off 2 wedding rings that got crimped on guys fingers and was on a job where a welder got his between the stinger and ground (cooked the finger pretty good). A friend was on a job where somebodys ring got hung and pulled the finger off.

I wear mine to church and when we go out plus one that was my grandfathers.

I stopped wearing mine when I almost my finger. I was cutting a hole in a piece of sheetmetal and I slipped on the wet machine I was standing on, the ring caught on the jagged hole I had punched and I was hanging from it for just a few seconds, 27 stitches and two surgery's to make it all better. No freakin ring's for me!!!!!!!!
