Re: Ramp-A-Thon

Got a quick blurb on last night's 6:00 News - meeting w/ another tv crew today at the site. Hopefully, I'm a little more eloquent today! They trimmed an awful lot out of my interview...for good reason! Talk about stumbling over my words...damn!

Couldn't figure out how to directly link to the video - go to this page and click on the video link under the picture.

Re: Ramp-A-Thon

They offered me a DVD copy for $45. I think I might go talk w/ the station manager...maybe they'll pony up a copy on the house. It's for a good cause. Hopefully, they'll see it that way and cut me a break.

I'm not web savvy enough to strip the video out of the pop-up window.

No joke, you do a great deed & donate the ramp & they want to charge you $45 for a dvd copy??? Tell them their competitor station wanted to run the segment & give you 5 "free" dvds, hahaha

Still good job all around..
As soon as the church selects a person who truly needs a ramp & because of a lack of funds, they do not have one, I hope to be posting pics & tv segment of the donation. As i said before, I know it is not all about reconition, but the cause is a noble one & I think it would be good to us who accepted your idea to also offer back some to you & CT.
I did fwd a copy of the news segment to the one at the church as well for them to see..
Thanks again

Let the yards and the Special Interest Groups come up with the Hardware. You provide the "Back".

As MAC has shown, St Vincent DePaul Society has VERY deep pockets. United Way (211 on your phone) is generous as well. If they can not help, they will steer you to those who can. Churches have "Bereavement War Chests" and Funding.

4 or 5 years ago i tried to volunteer locally for habitat for humanity, I thought it was odd that they never called back or emailed.

actually it was much longer than that now that i remember. It may have been up to ten years.

H F H is a VERY arrogant association. One can NOT get in in NYC unless one "knows" someone! Sorta like the Unions. How FU is that?

really? i had no idea. that would seem to be counter productive. Unless they have become more of an agenda driven political organization then a true helping hand.

That is EXACTLY what they have become.

As I said in my earlier post, Organization leads to Hierarchy, leads to Greed and Agenda.

Re: Ramp-A-Thon

I just got an email from someone looking for a ramp. I am already committed to building one in the Twin Cities area for a vet. Built by my NARI roundtable group.

This inquiry came from Owatanna, MN. This is over 60 miles away, can't pull it off. Different permit people ect.

Vet crushed both legs in an accident while at home. VA won't pay for ramp because its not service related. Also father of injured soldier is Vietnam vet.
Long shot, but just got the request today.

Same here. I first saw it on This Old House years ago and thought it would be a good thing to donate a week or so of my time.
They acted like I was asking for a job that I wasn't qualified for or something.
I eventually told someone at that organization that if they make it hard for a journeyman in the trades with a GC license and tons of experience to volunteer, who exactly are they looking for?
Only Tom Silva and Norm Abrams and whatever pretty-boy TOH host with a new tool belt that's under contract?
Screw them. I'd rather post fliers in my neighborhood and offer free handyman services to the elderly.
Or build a ramp in Ramp-A-Thon!

Good stuff Mac! I'm looking forward to building my ramp as soon as I find a needy recipient.

Re: Ramp-A-Thon

Hey guys,

I've missed a bit of the conversation since it's not on the "decks" section, and finally got caught-up reading.

I just became a board member on our local HBA, and was at a strategic planning meeting a week or so ago, and was able to lay some of the groundwork for presenting this as a local opportunity. I didn't want to rush in with a "yes" until I knew I could back it.

Anyway, count me in. I've got a few good reps at local yards, and can work on the labor side.
I also have a few media reps, so I'll try to get coverage on it locally, if at all possible.

Last thought: Has anyone reached out to NADRA to see if they'd sponsor or support? A tag in Pro Deck Build might be nice...
Sorry if these thoughts were already mentioned & I overlooked them!

Rock on! This just keeps gettin' better 'n better!

I don't have any contacts w/ NADRA but I'll shoot an email over to Andy Engel and another contact I have at Pro Deck Builder. Hadn't thought about it but a blurb there would definitely raise awareness of the project - good thinking, Matt!

I'm following this. GREAT IDEA!!

I have always been keen on trying to help others, and the community. I'll have to check this all out in terms of our resources and schedule. We may decide to get on board too (in the New England area).

I have a contact or two.
Let me put this information in their hands, and see what happens.
