3/8" or 3/4" foam and then the siding. the cheap guys wont bother using foam though and will put the siding right on top of the Masonite

That masonite is fun ***** to drive an aluminum nail through ain't it!!!. We have a plant 8 miles from my house that used to manufacture masonite. They used to offer factory second sales to their employees every 3 or 4 months and everyone knew someone who worked there....it's everywhere! Usually the masonite is covering clapboard siding underneath. I like to peel at least the masonite off, foam board or insulation and then do the siding. Makes it a whole lot easier to wrap the windows and make it look decent. In the grand scheme of things, how long does it really take to strip a layer of masonite?

Re: Putting Vinyl Over Masonite

Its not the stripping of the Masonite thats the issue, its the carrying of the Masonite a few pieces at a time to the trailer thats the problem. We stopped using aluminum nails in favor of electro galvs. Too many busted fingers. With the window and trim wrap system that we use it doesn't matter how many layers are on there as long as they are intact.

This house has 3/8" plywood under the masonite on 1/2 the house and the other just has that old sheet insulation, that brown black junk lookes like its made out of cardboard.
