PPaying Someone For Mileage For Driving Their Own Truck

Im working for a guy, and driving my own truck, with my own tools. He cant afford right now to outfit another truck, so i offered to use mine. I have heard of guys paying per mile to compensate for this, do any of you guys do this? What your typical calculations, or formula?

That's about right. When I was being paid for mileage it was .40 cents per, but that was 10 years ago. I think at the moment, gas is about the same price it was then.

I usually pay whatever the current IRS mileage rate is. If I have a vehicle available and they decide to drive their own it's on their dime.

40 to 45 cents a mile, and you need to keep an accurate mileage log of work miles driven.

if your carrying the materials and tools in your truck, then i think its should be more than .50 and you should chk with your insurance agent, because your insurance may not carry bennefits for you if you damage or hit somebody or something during work hours!

if your just using your vehicle to go back and forth to work or job site to job site then around .40-.50 is good.(and dont complain because alot of guys are offering NOTHING these days

Currently I don't have to worry about this, but most places will simply give a weekly or monthly allowance. (more $ if vehicle is lettered)

This equates to less paperwork, and less chance of someone inflating the numbers, etc...

Make sure your guys have commercial insurance not regular insurance, especially with lettering or materials being transported. My commercial policy was cheaper than my regular policy & is renewed yearly, not every 6 months

I think it would depend... If you are leaving your house and driving to 1 jobsite working all day then driving home. You should get nothing. This is just like anyone driving to a job. Now if you have to go to a shop first then the mileage from the shop to the next jobsite, and the next then you should get the IRS min. If you dont get the IRS min then you can deduct the difference between what you get and what the IRS says.

If the job is within 50 miles of my place you get nothing, over 50 miles, I fill your tank, over 100 miles I pick up the hotel (motel 6) tab.

No one else gets paid to drive to work.

If I am needing help and a guy stops and picks up materials on the way to a project, I will buy him lunch for the effort, plus he is still on the clock.

Re: PPaying Someone For Mileage For Driving Their Own Truck

Ill go to the parts house early AM, thats when the clock starts, then to the job, its always around 30-40 miles one way, my truck is fully loaded with tools, and material, i always use my own stuff.

Its not uncommon to have a job that is 50 miles one way.

If i was driving to a job site, and working, i wouldnt expect mileage, but im using my truck as a service truck, with my own stuff. He think paying mileage is fair, i just didnt know the cost per mile.

Judging my what im putting in my tank for the past couple of weeks, if i drove an average of 300 miles per week, (60 per day) it would cost him 150$ a week.

I wonder if a gas card is more fair? But these figure probably figure in wear an tear.

Re: PPaying Someone For Mileage For Driving Their Own Truck

I drive 60,000 km per year using my own vehicle lettered up and with my own tools. I have to have commercial insurance and oil changes are every 4-5 weeks. Expenses add up and after 2 years, I now have a "new" vehicle with 120,000 kms.
