to figure out the angles and do it laying down using the miter and bevel funtion, that was time consuming. The mantle is going
to reside in NYC so I built it in my shop and it will be transported there and installed by another contractor.
This is by far one of the more simple surrounds I have done. Most take me 1 to 1 1/2 weeks to make. If all the molding was supplied and I had a chop saw that would cut the cup in the nest, it would have taken me 7-8 hours to do.

How's that door refinishing project going?
It sucks. I wish I had never agreed to do the job now. I'm definitely going to stick to doing electrical from now on.

Refinishing sucks. So many different problems can come out of it. I'm glad I didn't offer to help

You stripping or sanding the old finish off of them? Either sucks, but chemicals will get into the corners easier,
but then you have to wash them off. That is why I will usually offer to build new. It will usually work out about
the same price, new will be more, but it will be new and look it. Only time refinishing is a good option is when you
are preserving something.

I will second that, and maybe third it.

I have about 30 hours in one door start to finish.

It is part of 3 that match, last orginal doors to come out of a 1860's house. They had 20+ coats of paint. I ended up knocking the pins out and pulled the door apart to get in all the corners.

These doors are verticle 2 panels. Rails and styles are wormy Butternut, panels are black Walnut. Truley beautiful 150 year old doors.

It's an older house and the HO wants to preserve the original doors. I stripped both of them then sanded with 100, 150, then 220 grit sand paper. Smooth as a baby's ass as they say, then as i started to apply the stain the HO decided to help me out. Problem is, she added too much stain and it wound being too dark (in my opinion) but she thinks they look great. It's been raining the past few days so I haven't been able to finish the 2nd door. Building those doors must be "fun" and I use that term loosely. Btw, what a pain in the ass it's been to tape around the 15 pieces of glass in each door. Thank God I am an electrician!

Not really a job, just playin around at the shop today.

Built this 16" x 12" box out of scrap redwood ( SAP & Heart mixed) and put in a spanish cedar liner.

Used lemon oil for the finish on the outside. Nothing on the inside.

To prove I don't just work on that one big farm house.

Replaced the siding on the front.

The other replaced rotten wood on the deck.

Here are a couple of my recent things, the first is the Altar and light columns from my Lodge used for the Grand Lodge of Oregon last week, complete rebuild and re-carved missing elements, rewired the lights, refinished all the pieces and parts along with four stations one of which was a brand new copy of a century old piece, and the second pic is of some wardens columns I am doing for a Lodge in California.
