Re-use of the existing header.

My foreman re-framed it the way it was prior.

- Can't tell you why they originally framed it that way (change in slider door width?), but we're not going to change around existing header-framing on a repair job, unless there is something wrong with the strength/design of it.

I think what the question is pertains to the 2 kings a 5 jacks, nothing to do with the header, instead of 5 jacks, 1 or 2 jacks could have been used, followed by 4 1/2'' bay, then another 6'11'' stud under the header. This would have been fine, would have saved 3 sticks, unless of coarse there was a point load as someone mentioned..No big deal, either way, G

Maybe the header is one of your tabletops.

BTW, how do you handle delivery & installation of an 800 lb top? Lotsa guys doing the Mrs. Whiggins shuffle, an engine hoist or what?

Gene- That swiss made mixer hanging in the back ground, is that thing worth a hoot? Only reason I ask is, I saw one the other day at a pawn shop for 125.00 bucks. I always wanted a mixer.

I wasn't on the site when this area was repaired (Way Busy). There is a second floor. So my lead worker, on that site, just decided to put it back, the way he found it ... with 5 jacks.

No problem. It's a $15K original water damage repair job, that turned (grew into) $50K+ in repairs (Structural rot). So, I could care less about the cost of an extra few 2x KD studs. As long as the work is getting done by the workers, it passes inspection, and we are making decent profits = it's all good.

Me and another guy built the activity center at the zoo in The Millbrook School about 15 years ago. You should seek it out, the zoo is open to the public and there are a lot of cool things in it.

Here's a couple of shots of one of our current projects.

We we're waiting for the weather to break before we finished cutting into the old house.

YES, its a brute, good for small vanities, sample tiles etc...they do get tired, so be careful for $125, it may be at the end of its life. G

Combination, hit the top with a quick 2000, then applied 7 coats of sealer, we also poured it on plexiglass. (the real secret to a shine)

Re: Post A Picture Of Your Current Job.

We're pretty much finished now,and will update with more shots once I get back out there.

It's not quite like the plans we received. The front was suppose to be a 12 pitch from the ridge to the first floor joists, but there was so much buried space that could be used we did a couple of alterations.
We gained about 250sq/ft of living and storage space for the HO,including a two walk in closets ,and an extended hallway, which allowed the bedrooms to be larger and got some natural lighting into an otherwise dark area.

The addition was for two bedrooms over a 1 1/2 car garage and extended kitchen.
It seemed like a lot of work and expense (with all the jogs in the floor plan)so we chucked the plans when we got to the second floor and roof line.

I did concrete for my kitchen here. I put a bunch of good (? expensive) grout sealer on it because I liked the more rustic look of a penetrative sealer, rather than a topical one. But I have a lot of staining from acidic liquids and am thinking about putting something else on them. What product do you use?

USG #1, expensive but worth it, we put a penetrative on first, followed by topical. PM me if you want full finishing info.. you will need a good stripper for your situation as well.

Eskellent! Thanks much for that; my imagination-squirrels were running wild.

I think I'll leave you to it, though. My back hurts without even looking at those flics.
